Say what you want about the New York Times, but it still makes more news than any other paper in the U.S. By this, I don't mean in the sense of printing the news, as other papers do, but rather in the sense of news about the Times itself. Consider these recent items that made national news.

Who owns the New York Times?

Its stock is traded publicly, but the Sulsberger family controls its board of directors. Note the stock slide last June, when l'Affaire Blair broke.

It's trickling down to smaller papers also. My husband got a hate-filled email from someone who disagreed on a story he wrote, and the guy, who doesn't know the Mr., called him a liar and asked if he worked for the NYT.
My hubby replied to him, and spelled out the facts in the story which this gentleman seemed to miss, and told him he needed to read the story before calling someone a liar. But what got to him the most was being compared to the NYT reporters. It was a hugh insult to him.
I don't think he is much longer in newspapers. He can't stand his editors, who would fit nicely on the NYT editorial board. Its a shame because he is a damn fine reporter who is always fighting the system to get his stories in.

Interesting.
Why is it that something(board of directors) that was created for the good of a company ends up in such a mess?
