The "Gun Culture"? No... It's the CRIME CULTURE, stupid!
now | me

Posted on 07/28/2003 9:03:46 AM PDT by King Prout

Leftists, the softheaded, and the bleeding-hearted in media, politics, and academe talk a lot about guns and crime. Seldom does a day pass without some smug, smarmy, avuncular or nannyish talking head spouting off on national television, expounding on the "obvious" causal link between availability of guns and violent crime, selling yet another installation of "reasonable" restrictions on the rights of law-abiding citizens, yet another iteration of the incremental erosion of the most fundamental of all of out natural rights.

They talk a lot, these media darlings. Buth they never really say anything, do they? One would think that blowing holes in their vaporous arguments would be as easy as pie, wouldn't you? A task so easily done that it would of course have BEEN done, completely, with no chance of evasion, some dozens of years ago. But, no, it hasn't. It hasn't, the lid to this particular coffin HAS NOT been nailed shut, because we of and on the Right have never had the guts to speak the principle truth that these fools so studiously ignore.

Well, I -for one- am fed up.

Here is the basic, ugly, unvarnished truth:

The crime rate in this country is not caused by guns. It is not caused by the real, traditional gun-culture which the anti-gunners like to call "the gun nuts". It is not even caused by this vague, amorphous, indescript thing they have trumped up as the "culture of violence".

The crime rate in this country is caused by THE CRIME CULTURE.

You know, that culture which espouses the principles of the irresponsible scofflaw, the rogue, the ruffian, the bad-boy, the barbarian, that behaving badly is "cool", that committing felonies for fun and profit is A-OK, and that the rest of us must always "tolerate" it in the name of "diversity". To put the crime rate in this country to decline, we must address this culture, and those who actively promulgate it, directly and harshly.

This truth is self-evident. To start from any lesser premise is to lose the debate.

That is something we can no longer afford to do.

of course not - they need bread-and-circuses after all... until some helpful soul invents the real analogue of "Soma"

"rights for me, not for thee"

Sadly, you are absolutely correct.

That's ok... I don't mind. Becoming a "paper" criminal doesn't bug me at all. Of course, most of the local populace and ALL of the local police are staunch RKBAers themselves, so I have some built-in security which many Americans lack. I wrote this not so much for my sake, but for those abovementioned others. I invite anyone who so wishes to send my vanity post to whomever they choose, as their own work if they so desire (though I urge anyone who does so to correct my typos!).

We need to start hammering back NOW, before it becomes in truth a matter calling for votes cast from rooftops.

GREAT LINK!
I wage a slow campaign on several other sites, including (especially) those frequented by rather liberal but not entirely brainwashed folks. I have found some unexpected allies, managed to outright convert a few gungrabbers, opened the eyes of some others. The majority, however, simply fail to follow the logic of words. Perhaps because I am dealing primarily with artists? Perhaps potent visuals will work where reasoned argument hasn't.
Worth a shot.

For the greatest RKBA visuals, go to Oleg Volk's site "Self Defense is a Basic Human Right."

I'll get you a link if you don't have it.

KP,

The quote "Liberals are people who kill babies and baby killers" means "they slaughter unborn children while they coddle criminals". At least, that's the way I interpret it. A good sound-bite that shows how morally backwards they are.
