How can somebody proclaim to be a member of Pres Bush's base and never voted for him? That boggles the mind and shows the sheer lunacy of some of these posts.
Anyone that didn't like him as the Texas Governor -- I thought he was great and did a lot for Texas Education BTW not to mention he introduced the Texas card in lieu of food stamps which was fantastic -- is not a Republican IMHO and comes from a 3rd party -- Perot comes to mind.

Retired vets are the base? Is this true? Don't they all vote Democrat all the time because of retirement bennies?

Keep your promises or lose my vote. Simple as that.I'm curious, what did Bush lie about?
To: Dane
Or one of those Texans that supported Perot and didn't bother to see what he stood for except to get Clinton elected.

Bump for later reading.

Remember the American Legion and how they welcomed Clinton over and over again with loud applause. That spoke volumes to me!
Personally they sound like the Wage Board Union people of the Government -- gimme, gimme, gimme!

(Another member of the 'team?')Member of what team? Bush basher team? You won't find me on the Bush bashing threads. Gore team? I voted for Bush.
I showed up because you were wrongfully attacking a friend of mine. I'm sorry if you think that was wrong.

Or one of those Texans that supported Perot and didn't bother to see what he stood for except to get Clinton elected. Wrong! Your assumptions are laughable knowing the person you are talking about. Too bad you don't get to know her instead of attacking her. Not one of you bothered to ask what Bush had done as Gov. that turned her from voting for him for Pres. How can you judge without this information. And even if you disagree with the ultimate answer, does that justify such attacks?

I didn't 'attack her.' It's just preposterous to claim your part of someone's 'base' and at the same time admit you never voted for him.
And claiming to be a Conservative does not make it so. There's no way in the world that anyone would suspect that she's the real deal from the antagonistic tenor of her posts.
To: PhiKapMom
I'm thinking of my own grandfather, a vet who seemed very conservative, yet didn't seem to know there was any other party than the party of Harry Truman. He became personal friends with some high ranking Dems and began a very Liberal-oriented lecture tour. It got so we couldn't discuss anything except how to properly care for library books.

Why don't you ask your friend to present herself in a more pleasant manner if you're going to get so upset at the reaction to her posts?
There are a whole lot of very reasonable people who have gotten the same impression that there's something strange about her claims.....
To: RightWhale
My Grandfather who was a farmer became a straight Republican voter after switching from the Democrats because of FDR. My Mom always told the story of him switching when she was growing up. I grew up in a very Republican household to say the least.

I think you may be right, Dane. He's also a bit confused.........which supports the gorebot theory......
And claiming to be a Conservative does not make it so. There's no way in the world that anyone would suspect that she's the real deal from the antagonistic tenor of her posts.
I haven't seen any antagonistic posts from her. All she said was that she didn't vote for Bush. She has problems with some of Bush's policies. This does not mean she is not conservative or ultraconservative or a Gorebot but you all have decided, in error, that it does.

carenot is a solid conservative and a good and decent person. Those of you who are accusing her of being a liberal are either misinformed, ignorant, or just plain stupid.

To: Fred Mertz
"But it would cost as much as $5 billion a year to expand payments to 670,000 disabled veterans, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld earlier this month told lawmakers that the president would veto any bill including the change" Let's weigh this, ten billion to Africa to throw away down a tin pot dictators rat hole. Five billion on a Farm Bill, let's don't even peek at the prescription drug program. Yet the skin flints in D.C. can't afford to pay our brave men both disability and retirement.
Bush who has never vetoed a liberal bill, CFR, the education bill, a billion more to the U.N., jumps up with a snarl and threatens our veterans with his nasty veto pen. We call that double dealing where I come from.
To: ohioWfan
carenot isn't a Gorebot. She just doesn't like Bush. One can be conservative and not like Bush.

That's all I'm asking.
I voted for Bush, why is carenot so afraid to say who she voted for.
