Undersea vents possible origin of life

July 24 — In a new study, researchers speculate that a towering undersea hot-water chimney laden with microbes is just the sort of place that might have spawned life on Earth or even other planets.

THE HYDROTHERMAL VENT SYSTEM discovered two years ago has now been found to have endured for 30,000 years. Researchers said similar setups — on Earth and possibly on other worlds — might last millions of years and could have been incubators for the first life. The Lost City, as it has been named, is a craggy column of minerals and microbes sitting 2,500 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. It is 180 feet (55 meters) tall, higher than any other known underwater vent system and more than twice as tall as most.

UNIQUE SYSTEM Underneath the structure, seawater seeps down into the fractured crust of Earth. There, the decay of one mineral forms another, called serpentine, and releases heat in the process. This process of serpentinization lifts warm water laden with minerals back into the ocean, building the structure.

Why not take it one step further -- I believe microbes have been found that can live within rock located deep underground and at superhigh temperatures.

I personally think it may have been the return air vent in my garage.

This is similar to the structures that form under the beds in the kids' rooms.

YEC - here we go again.

Key question to ask - if this is true, where did all of the information carried on the DNA come from?

There is only one source of information - intelligence. Information never arises from inorganic matter.

It is called "story telling."

It is an interesting structure and a source of raw materials and energy for microbes not unlike the vents we already know. It really doesn't seem to add anything more than an enlarged area for microbe exploitation.

And God created man in his own image,....(created in Heb. Barah = something out of nothing ) and did it all in one day , the sixth. Now you see no inconsistency with Genesis? May I see your Bible? Maybe I got a bad one.

My boyfriend and I went to Carlsbad Caverns this past March. I am sitting in front of the brochure that says : "Lechuguilla cave will probably not be opened to the public. Within the cave scientists have discovered microbes that produce enzymes capable of destroying concer cells."

I am curious as to what properties these microbes may have, if any.

There is only one source of information - intelligence. Information never arises from inorganic matter.

Your definition of "information" is specious and has no scientific merit. Incorrect assumptions leading to incorrect conclusions.

Colloquial and other informal definitions of "information" are entirely different from the scientific and technical definition, which are all derived from the mathematical definition. Like the word "manifold", the definition of "information" varies and is critically specific to the subject matter.

If you use the correct definition for that field, you'll see that your argument evaporates. There may be many arguments against abiogenesis, but this has always been an extremely weak one because it founded on not understanding the terms of the subject matter.

An the small calcified blob begat a rudimentary cell, which begat a less rudimentary cell, which of course couldn't possibly have happened since evolution is complete nonsense, but if you must believe, then, yes, you did come out of a red hot hole,...just not the one you think!
