The House of Representatives seems to be on my side of the "cause" so I really don't care.

And in veto-proof numbers at that.

I thought this comment from the article was telling: True conservatives, Tonsor said, were Roman Catholic at root, or at a minimum Anglo-Catholic. They studied literature, not the social sciences.

If that isn't fringe thinking, I don't know what is.

Truth be told, "conservatism" is a big tent, or at least has to be if we expect to ever win any elections. If the pure paleos were to expunge those of us they think are squishy, those who are left would amount to about 15% of the electorate. To "win" doesn't mean getting 100% of what you may want, but in reality, getting perhaps a bit more than 50% of what you want. I'll take it, because the alternative represents about 99% of what I DON'T want. Unfortunately, some people would rather be "right" than to ever win elections.

Novak hasn't made sense for a long time and neither has Sen Hagel. But they do now!

LOL...you really wanna' pit Canadian David Frum's "patriotism" up against this guys?...a guy who's proven his when it really counts?

Hagel served in Vietnam with his brother Tom in 1968. They served side by side as infantry squad leaders with the U.S. Army's 9th Infantry Division. Hagel earned many military decorations and honors, including two Purple Hearts.

The fact is that he's right. Reminds me of something Patrick Henry said once... what was that?

Cyber Liberty, may your chains hang lightly around your neck. Why are you so willing to sacrafice liberty for a false security? The Constitution is not a "here today, gone tomorrow", "it's OK as long as it's our guys trashing it" kind of document. I would wager a guess that 85% of problems in America today are a direct result of not following the Constitution, or making some kind of exception to the explicit boundaries written in it regarding functions of government.

I would post the quotes from Ben Franklin, Patrick Henry, Jefferson, Madison, Washington, etc, but I know my keystrokes would be wasted.

It's fine if you need some bloated, inefficient fedgov watching over your every move to make you feel safe, but don't monkey around with the liberties that the rest of us enjoy.

Where did Frum serve, if you know? What are his patriotic credentials, if I may ask? By patriotic, I refer to America.

the only way to ever regain our constitutional government or to re-secure our Liberty is to totally reject the evils of liberalism/socialism/marxism

So, why, then, do folks who are opposed to Bush's desire to massively expand Medicare catch so much guff lately here on FR? One should oppose large-scale expansion of government, whether it's done by the Dems OR the GOP - and if ONE more GOP House member had voted against the Medicare prescription drug bill, it would have died there on the House floor. And all the GOPers voting against that bill are solid conservatives.

Frum's a real hoot...it didn't take to long for GWB to realize it either, hence his sorry ass was kicked out of the WH.

I agree with many of your sentiments bc, but for the record, Cyber Liberty did not make the comments I originally criticized.

Good riddance. Taki Theodoracoupalous wants to kick her rear, due to a few lies Frum was spreading about him. Frum actually made a fool out of himself with this column and others, and ultimately was criticized heavily by many respected conservatives, not just paleos, either.

Unfortunately, some people would rather be "right" than to ever win elections.

Not me, I want to WIN!!!! They seem to forget that we have States that two Senators like mine in Oklahoma -- Senators Nickles and Inhofe -- could never get elected in. The State of Maine comes to mind. I would rather have those two seats Republican even if they don't vote like I would want them to 100% of the time.

When the chips are down, both women usually come through -- especially Susan Collins. Sen Snowe gave a really good interview yesterday about the Intelligence briefings they had been getting and what a good job the Intelligence community was doing in Afghanistan and Iraq. Sure wouldn't know that from the DemocRATs!

why did "The Death of the West" hit Number 3 on the Bestseller list?

Best seller lists are not opinion polls. Why was it that when Rush Limbaugh's "The Way Things Ought to Be" fell out of the #1 position, the book that took its place was Howard Stern's autobiography? After weeks (or was it months?) of Limbaugh being at #1, did the American people all of a sudden turn boorish and crude? No, it's just that there truly aren't enough people who buy books to have one sector of the society dominate the book-buys. Limbaugh was #1; then Stern; then Buchanan was #3; a few weeks ago, Hillary was #1. It means nothing in terms of the overall attitudes and opinions of Americans.

"I'm not willing to trade my freedoms for FALSE so called security.
I'm responsible for my own security. "

Your freedoms are not yours to trade or not to trade. You are not responsible for your own security. Everything is granted or taken care of by the state. It's for the collective good of everyone and the individual good of no one.

think the Confederacy was a good idea with the exception of chattel slavery

In other words, without the raison d'etre of the whole exercise?

11 days.....start to finish for the latest Freepathon.

Darned good, I would think, considering how many take vacations and time-off in July.

The vast majority of Americans agree with Buchanan on immigration. A majority agree with him on affirmative action. A majority agree with him on school prayer. There are few issues that most Americans DON'T agree with him on. Perhaps one is Buchanan's view on Middle Eastern affairs, where he urges neutrality. On that, it's probably about 50-50.

I realize a bestseller list is not an opinion poll. But, if he didn't have a lot of support, his book wouldn't sell.
