Some of the people cracking jokes about this may feel pretty foolish later if there are casualties.

For those that hate the French and would be indifferent to French casualties (hopefully not many people think that way), I would point out that it is tourist season and there could be Americans up there as well.

We should be the last people anywhere cracking jokes about a tower buring when there are potential casualties. I don't find the deaths of innocent people very funny, no matter what nationality they happen to be.

If this turns out to be a terrorist attack on a priceless French landmark, I have only one question:

How's Kobe doing?

Brilliant!

Contrary to what some have reported, Americans are going back to France! Here we see a group of American kids today at the Eiffel Tower.

Fire at Eiffel Tower

22/07/2003 19:42 - (SA)

Paris - A fire broke out Tuesday evening at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, firefighters said, with clouds of smoke seen billowing into the sky.

A police official said the entire tower was immediately evacuated, and there were apparently no injuries.

Pictures shown on French television station LCI showed smoke pouring from the top story on the 324m tower, France's best-known landmark visited by about six million visitors a year.

I think the French should be asking themselves, what they have done themselves to cause so much anger in their enemies...

The problem is, though, that it may be converted into a giant mosque after the Islamists take over from the "current morons running France."

"Isn't it made of iron? What's burning on it?"

Answer: a secret government stash of white flags in readiness for the next military conflict in which France finds itself surrendering.... 8~)

I agree; jokes would be tasteless. That's why I stress that it is NO JOKE when I say, if it turns out this is an act of terrorism, I would be opposed to France striking back in any way.

You're a braver man than I. But now that you've led the way I'll follow. The Eiffel Tower is ugly and it's removal would greatly improve the skyline of Paris. It looks like a radio tower with a thyroid condition, fie on it.

Could just be a simple kitchen fire then.

Just in: 13,000,000 Frenchmen surrendered today when a fondue pot boiled over on the observation deck of the Eiffel Tower today.

1. Who is burning? The AFP is telling us that no one has been hurt.
2. The targets of the Bali Bombings were Americans & Australians (good guys).
3. While I agree that it is a fantastic monument, the French deserve national pain. I want their hearts broken, and their national pride destroyed. I want them to suffer for what they have done.
