I saw Buddy in person at one of the Inaugural Balls in January 1989 for George H. W. Bush. I resisted the urge to walk up and shake his hand and let him enjoy the event like any other person there. He appeared like a friendly, kind gentleman.
Rest in Peace, Buddy Ebsen.

Conspiracy theorists take note! Lots of celeb deaths lately. Not... sure... what that... would mean.... Still. Somebody's cleaning up on the celebrity death pools.

Sorry, fellers. You cain't have Jed and the Clampetts. They was from Tennessee, not Arkansas.
Come on, you lazy AP reporters, Tennessee is mentioned in dozens of shows...
Thanks for the laughs, Mr. Ebsen.

I was so surprised when I learned that Uncle Jed had first been a dancer - but now that's the way I remember him best.

Rest in peace, Buddy Ebsen.

A great talent, a long career, and a true conservative. What a shame that most will remember him for his role in the inane and viciously stereotypical Beverly Hillbillies. Southerners, particularly those from the Appalachians, are fair game for ridicule, it seems; not so other ethnic groups.

Rest in peace Mr. E.

I had the pleasure of meeting him when I was young, and he hired me to work on his boat. Just to keep it clean, LOL. This was in Newport Beach, and he owned a tri-maran, 32 ft. I scraped the barnacles off, kept the lines clean, resanded and varnished the wood, and he let me stay on the boat while I was there. On occasion, his wife would bring me food, like I was a starving urchin.
No finer man, no kinder man, no more down to earth man. The world is a sadder place for me now. RIP Buddy. You hardly knew me, but you gave me wonderful memories of a couple of summers of youth.

Buddy used to have a big catamaran (maybe it was a trimaran?) that he sailed in the big races (Marina del Rey to San Diego and Newport Beach to Ensenada) out here in southern California. He always hosted a big barbecue the night before the race and I had the pleasure of meeting him at one of those events. God bless you, Buddy!

I demand to know what the clintoon connection to these actors is!

Milton Drysdale (Raymond Bailey) died 4/15/1980 (yes, tax day,)
so it would be hard for him to have become sole beneficiary to anything.

Cool story. Buddy Ebsen did seem like a very graceful and true gentle-man.
How nice for you to have those memories!

I always said when Bill and Hill left the White House, it was like the Beverly Hillbillies the way they drove off with the stolen loot.
Of course, we know that they can't come near Uncle Jed and the rest as far as class and honor!

What role did Nancy play?
To: countrydummy
Miss Jane Hathaway, of course. What other character would be a lesbian in real life.
To: Behind Liberal Lines
that is a shame. I liked the role she played in "Night of the Grizzly" with Clint Walker. That movie scared me silly as a little girl!
RIP Buddy! Thanks for all the laughs and wisdom!
