The Vast Dubya & DeLay Conspiracy
June 30, 2003
Depending on where you go and in what circles you travel, conservatives are livid with the Bush administration. Some, more so than others, are furious over the size of the federal budget, the failing to rein in any kind of spending, tax cuts for people who don't pay taxes, the Medicare prescription drug benefit, the list continues - and theres a great deal of head scratching going on.
I came across an Associated Press story over the weekend that attempts to shed some light on whats happening, which you can hear me read in the audio links below. However, the story seems to imply theres a conspiracy between the White House and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas.
Heres just one excerpt: DeLay has become the most identifiable representative of the party's right wing, and the two Texans have had a sometimes scrappy relationship. Clashes may become more frequent as Bush moves beyond his current phase of fund raising among loyal Republicans and shifts his attention to the general electorate, analysts suggest. At the same time, Bush and his advisers are mindful that if they go too far, they could alienate conservatives whose support he needs. Bush is carefully picking and choosing his fights, said GOP consultant Scott Reed. There's a healthy back and forth between the White House staff and DeLay that is mutually beneficial to both.
The story continues to suggest that Bush is telling DeLay to go ahead and stop what hes trying to do - on purpose. The idea being that Bush can thus claim credit for supporting whatever measure, while DeLay and other conservatives can point to victory for blocking its ultimate passage. A caller later asked: Isn't this the same strategy that Bush used on campaign finance reform, only he is counting on the Supreme Court to shoot it down? You can hear my answer below.
It's all explained in the posts above.
Go find it and post it if you wish.
It's not a big secret by any means. I just spent the last 30 minutes discussing it with you.
I would point out that you are proving my point about third party people.

Let's see ... Howard Dean ( ? ) or one of the other of the 7 dwarves and Nader and the candidates from more than a dozen fringe groups all running against the incumbent President ? LOL
Bush Signs Largest Family Planning Bill In U.S. History
Covenant News ^ | 1/11/02
On Thursday, January 10, 2002, the White House reported President Bush signed the ominous $15.4 billion foreign appropriations bill, H.R. 2506, for fiscal-year 2002. The bill authorizes $446.5 million U.S. tax dollars to be given to other countries for abortion-family planning activities throughout the world. The abortion-family planning funds approved by Bush represents an increase of $21.5 million over last year for international family planning.

As far as the prescription benefits for seniors, there is no way to convince me that a give-away of that magnitude leads to anything other than socialized medicine.
I have my own definition of Conservative, and GW doesn't fit it.
Now, I'm very sorry, but 04:30 comes early for me.
I can't stay longer.
Thank you for being here.
Now, wait a minute..
I thought dubya killed overseas abortion funding. I actually broke ranks with my fellow (ahem) "conspirators" and cheered him for this. (Boy! THAT got the Star Chamber in an uproar, lemme tell you..)
I think he denied these funds.. I know he denied the UN funds for abortion.
I read it right here on FR.
The point is, dear, that the article is a year+ old , President Bush IS most assuredly running for re-election, and that the Bushbashers are going to be crying in their collective beers, yet again ... as ever. :-)
I remember that for years I thought conservatives were mean spirited and only cared about number one. I finally grew up and became one and a card carrying member of the Republican party. Once I did, I couldn't believe I ever had fallen for the line of the democrats as mentioned in the beginning of my post.
Lately however, as I read more and more posts from people here on FR who are supposed to be conservatives all working toward the same goal, I can now see why I thought this. Some of you are very mean spirited, calling names, and just plain only caring about your pet projects.
I don't pretend to agree with every decision the President has made because I don't. However, I do agree enough with his general policies, and his character to support him even when I don't get my way.
Am I the only one who recalls Bush saying he wanted prescription drugs for seniors while he was running? He did, and yet you seem surprised that he kept that promise! He is the President of this country, not just your personal puppet, to do all of your bidding.
You want to see socialist? Stick around. If Hillary Clinton reaches her goal and becomes the first female dictator of this country, you will see socialism. What this President is doing is not socialism, it is being the representative of a very large population of citizens who each have different needs and desires. I am not selfish enough to think he is going to do everything I want.
You haven't all your ducks in a row, so I'll not even attempt to refute you.
It doesn't matter if President Bush is your kind of a Conservative or not. What matters is that it's him, or you go over to the other side. No one is going to now change your mind ; you've managed to close it. 'Nough said.
So, you actually believe that an article that says:
WASHINGTON (AP) - On his 96th day in the White House, President Bush (news - web sites) was in no hurry to envision a second term - ``IF I run again,'' he demurred - or to dazzle detractors in his first.
Expectations? ``I'm doing everything I can to keep 'em low,'' the president said with a chuckle.
means what you said in this post?
Posted by MissAmericanPie to mickie On News/Activism 06/30/2003 10:52 PM EDT #59 of 195 Bush himself said it. That he might not run again. What a relief it would be if he didn't. I cannot, not vote for a Republican, so I'll just end up writing one in I guess. |

It shocked me to hear him say it. Doesn't anyone watch the news anymore? lol In 2001, after all the rallies and the bitter fight for victory over the Democratic vote fraud machine, I was fired up for Bush and hanging on every word he said like it was gospel. |
It's socialism..
And it doesn't matter if Dubya is doing it Hillary is doing it, the bill is still going to have to be paid.
If you don't like me for being upset about this and think I am "mean" only care about my "pet projects" go right ahead.
Maybe you're too old to care.. You can just reap the benefits and then drop dead.
But I, and a bunch of people I know are going to have to pay for this.
I am not happy about it and if that's "mean" then I suppose I am just "mean"
I don't know what else to tell you.
Yes.
Politicians will lie, cheat and steal to get elected. We got a politician when we were hoping for some adult leadership.
