Is Free Republic too "Republican?" I've been receiving a lot of complaints lately that FR is not really conservative, it's Republican. Is that a bad thing?

When I started FR (see the wayback machine) I don't think I even used the labels conservative or Republican. But, even though I was a registered Democrat at the time (I registered when I was very young), I was definitely anti-Democrat. And definitely anti-big government, anti-government corruption, anti-government abuse, anti-liberalism, etc. And I still am.

As FR became more and more popular, people started referring to it as a "conservative" web site and so eventually I posted the label to the front page. If it no longer applies, big deal. What's in a label? I'll change it to "Republican" if demand warrants.

I'm still anti-big government, anti-government corruption, anti-Democrat and anti-liberalism. I just happen to believe that in the current political environment we stand a better chance of defeating the left (liberalism/socialism/marxism, etc) by using the Republican Party to defeat the Democrats. The organization is there. The platform is there. The winning candidates are there. The dollars to run winning campaigns are there. The momentum is there. And the vast majority of the conservative voters are there.

Makes perfect sense to me. I want to defeat the left, and I want to do it as quickly as possible. I'll go with the organization that can get the job done.

My current goal is to defeat liberalism by defeating the Democrat Party. If that labels me a Republican, then so be it. If the vast majority of the FReepers want it so, then Free Republic will officially become the newest "Republican wing" of the Republican Party.

Just to interject, from Illionis, where we made the mistake of electing George Ryan (R) over Glenn Poshard (D) a little over four years ago... there are some Democrats that are better than some who pass for Republicans.

The Liberals are relying on the "Disgruntled Republican Mentality Syndrome" that affects you so that they can put in place the last big missing link of their FDR/Socialistic/Democrat socially-addictive program: Universal Health Care and all the tax increases that will be necessary to support it.

I can't " dictate " anything. Jim Robinson, the owner of this site has stated over and over again that the ONLY way to defeat the Dems, is to vote for Republicans. I too think this is the way to go. Staying home is NOT an alternative; neither is voting for a fringe party. Staying home, or voting for someone who can't win, never has and never shall " punish " , nor " teach a lesson to " the candidate or party one is trying to do that to. All it does, if there are enough doing either/both of thsoe things, is HELPING TO ELECT THE PERSON ONE LEAST WANTS IN OFFICE . It's as simple as that. If one doesn't understand that, then they don't really belong on a polictical forum, nor imagining that they have any political interest at all.

There is NO political candidate in the history of this nation, who would have / could have fulfilled the wants, desires, and wishes, 100 % ( even 70% ) of the time, of all, or even some of those who voted them into office. It has taken most of the 20th century to get this country to where it is now. The things most of us disagree with, can NOT be changed overnight, nor even in two terms of any GOP president. Those who crave that, are childish and/or really want a dictator; no matter what they might say.

Well, for one, we're not subject to the UN (which I'm sure we would've been under Gore). Number two, we won't be appointing liberal activists, abortionists, feminazis, homosexualists, etc, to the federal courts (which we would've done under Gore). Number three, we use our military might to defend the nation against foreign attack (which we would not be doing under Gore). Number four, we did not ratify Kyoto (which we would've done under Gore). Number five, we got a huge tax cut (which we would not have gotten under Gore). Number six, we got a partial birth abortion ban (which we would not have gotten under Gore). Number seven, you still have your guns (Gore would be agressively advancing the effort to nullify the second amendment). Number eight, we can hold our heads high knowing that the corruption and sleaze of Clinton/Gore have been removed from the White House. Number nine, we are enjoying a Republican majority which will eventually lead to more conservates in the courts, an overturn of Roe vs Wade, less regulation, smaller government, less taxes, stronger national defense, a booming economy, etc, etc. Number 10, as the conservative majority begins replacing the liberal activist judiciary, we will be setting the liberals back 40 years or more.

Trite isn't it? Traced it back and the left really got going on that allegation starting in 1918. John Reed, Emma Goldman and other communist/anarchists did a reversal and put our Attorney General at the time, Palmer, on trial. Worked very well for them.
