Is Free Republic too "Republican?" I've been receiving a lot of complaints lately that FR is not really conservative, it's Republican. Is that a bad thing?

When I started FR (see the wayback machine) I don't think I even used the labels conservative or Republican. But, even though I was a registered Democrat at the time (I registered when I was very young), I was definitely anti-Democrat. And definitely anti-big government, anti-government corruption, anti-government abuse, anti-liberalism, etc. And I still am.

As FR became more and more popular, people started referring to it as a "conservative" web site and so eventually I posted the label to the front page. If it no longer applies, big deal. What's in a label? I'll change it to "Republican" if demand warrants.

I'm still anti-big government, anti-government corruption, anti-Democrat and anti-liberalism. I just happen to believe that in the current political environment we stand a better chance of defeating the left (liberalism/socialism/marxism, etc) by using the Republican Party to defeat the Democrats. The organization is there. The platform is there. The winning candidates are there. The dollars to run winning campaigns are there. The momentum is there. And the vast majority of the conservative voters are there.

Makes perfect sense to me. I want to defeat the left, and I want to do it as quickly as possible. I'll go with the organization that can get the job done.

My current goal is to defeat liberalism by defeating the Democrat Party. If that labels me a Republican, then so be it. If the vast majority of the FReepers want it so, then Free Republic will officially become the newest "Republican wing" of the Republican Party.

Long live Republicanism. Long live the Republic!'

Most people, who aren't political naifs, or purer than thouers knew that Perot wasn't an alternative answer to Bush the elder and Bubba-bentone.

The simple, historically proven fact is, that third parties do NOTHING but hand an election over to the candidate, the person going fringe, most despises/fears. Politics is not now and never has been about only voting for a candidtae who is THE exemplar of one's ideal and positions. Those who rant & rave about this one and that not being whatever and just how more Conservative , or Liberal one is, doesn't mean that one shouldn't accept the possible ... instead of rejecting, out of hand, what one can get. Those people go through life NEVER being satified and never shall be.

The dog-in-the-manger/ cut of one's nose to spite one's face whingers here, refuse to see reality. They go from thread to thread claiming that they'll stay home or why everyone else should vote for some fringe candidate who, if elected, couldn't give them what they imagine he could. That's just delusional, on their collective part and they need to either wake up, or to forget utterly about politics; a subject they don't understand and never shall.

What panic? They are as politcally strong, today as they ever were; and you are adding to their mantra, too.

Stay the helm, Jim! Keep steering towards the light of our US Constitution without references of modern day judges that are political-babble interpreters of the major parties.

I think FR is great just the way it is.
Forget the labels, everyone is just warming up for the battle. As the elections near I think everyone will spend less time debating each other and more time working together.

When the time comes we'll all be voting Republican because that is where our power lies.

Anyway, that's my opinion.

I forgot his name........because I haven't been here too much lately. But you would know him, he's a great person.

Thanks for believing me.....he considers himself "old style Democrat" and hates all the Dems currently in it. He wants the old party of more conservative Dems back.

The momentum is there. And the vast majority of the conservative voters are there.

As far as FR goes there are enough conservatives that post here that suit what what I'm looking for (along with the trashings of liberal ideas). But the Republicans do not represent my core conservative beliefs, like smaller government and adherence to the Constitution. The Reps get my vote with my nose plugged up. I have no where else to go. And that sucks.

Ahh! So Perot's 25% of the popular vote had no merit within American politics. Man, Perot scared the Republocrat institution into begging America for more handouts in the way of federal relief to buy more voters.

Candidate Perot was a farce.

When I saw/heard Perot ... yes, I saw a " loser "! He made NO sense, he gave up, lied about his daughter's wedding, went back in, was a laughingstock, who naive, gullible, political naifs were easily conned by.

President Bush the elder ran a lackluster re-election campaign. He was neither a GREAT, nor a DREADFUL president; falling into the catagory most presidents do.

Clinton was easily decernable as horrid, from the get go. At least to me, he was.

The problem is that if one or two more staunch Conservative Democrats were elected to the Senate, for example, then the Non-Conservative Democrats would be in total control of the Senate again with possible Supreme Court vacancies coming up.

Patriot Act: Frightening in the hands of Hillary ~_~* I shudder at the thought. Especially if all those FBI file rumors are true. What should we do about this? I know they need to be able to do better surveillance but couldn't they make it more Constitutional?

Santorum: A stand up guy who stands with his voters. Bush ran on a pro-family platform in his campaign and I thought he would take a stronger stand for Santorum. Still I think this was more the RINO Racicot than anybody else. I've still foamed at the mouth though. I'll probably get over it ~_^.

You are totally correct. And Bush hater Speaker George Mitchell set up the "Read My Lips" ploy and Bush hater Ross Perot offered an "alternative" and a whole group of gullibles fell for it. The gullibles rewarded the Democrats for a successful "Read My Lips" ploy and then President Clinton showed us what a real tax hike looked like.

What strategy has our master lead America into? So far, it has been wars around the world with trillions added upon our national debt while creating the largest government in American history while our economy is upon the brink of diesaster ... and still no OBL or Saddam.
