If Soong is an oriental and the programming jobs are going to orientals, what's the difference? He came here for a job and now finds they are elsewhere? Two wrongs don't make a right.

"If a decade ago we discovered that manufacturing can be done anywhere, in this decade we are learning that knowledge can be learned anywhere."

Instead of taking this fact to heart; there are Freepers who would stand on the same side as ZOE LOFGREN? Has anyone forgotten that this woman is probably the second greatest socialist in Congress?

So much for those core-conservative values, when it comes to keeping a high-paying job, eh? The term "Fair-weather Conservatives" comes to mind.

I hope this wont just became another 1000+ post/screaming match, but it probably will. Ho-hum.

Get ready for miswired & improperly maintained aircraft coming from overhaul centers in China, Mexico etc. Airline execs are firing higher paid personnel and supervisors, outsourcing the work to foreign "chop shops", and eliminating anyone with spine enough to refuse siging off work. WHERE's the FAA?

Guess what congressmen, YOU RIDE THOSE AIRCRAFT TOO!

I hope you will vote for candidates against NAFTA job out-sourcing.

At the moment, millions of Americans are wondering if the reason they can't find a job is a problem with their own resume.' It is soon going to dawn on most Americans that NO American resume' will be good enough because there are simply far too many Americans looking for work in this country than there are jobs available. This translates into lower wages, a lower standard of living and ultimately, deflation.

Free trade was supposed to EXPORT a higher American standard of living to poorer countries. It actually is resulting in the IMPORT of third-world poverty into America.

What is happening right now is a global slowdown in business which is because America, the economic engine of the world, has been economically devastated by outsourcing. Corporate executives have killed the golden goose by destroying job opportunities in America.

Americans cannot buy if they cannot earn!

In reading through all these posts I wonder why the Republican
elite and policy makers don't get it yet on "free trade". It simply cannot bring the open markets for US goods it was sold on. I agree with other posts. If the Republicans really are intent on staying in power past 2004, they have to revisit this issue.

Thanks for posting this article. Rush and the other conservative pundents have lost credibility with me as I rarely hear them talk about all the jobs going outside our country. If they do talk about the jobs leaving (and it's never really in that context), it's with a sneer towards those who find the situation alarming.

This is a temporary situation. I remember when the auto manufacturers moved a lot of the manufacturing jobs down to Mexico. The auto makers soon found out that the cheap labor was also below their standards, and as the saying goes "you get what you pay for." Soon the auto manufacturers figured out that Mexico was really only good for cheap assembly.

The same thing will happen here. When the quality of the products begins to decline the big Tech companies will figure out that they're not really saving any money by "outsourcing" those critical Engineer jobs.

This issue has been hammered repeatedly over the past 6 months or so. Probably 80% to 90% of FReepers realize there is a serious problem with H-1Bs, L1s, outsourcing, and moving jobs overseas. Assuming that FReepers are a statistical reflection of the conservative (and small L "libertarian") camps, then we can presume this view is held by the Republican base.

Presumably the Republican leadership and the DNC monitor this board. But so far -- the apparent policy has been to ignore this issue. Does anyone on this forum have any kind of inside relationship with the Republican reps and Senators, so as to discuss it with them personally? Because inquiring minds want to know whats up with them ignoring their base on this issue.

Two things:

1. If companies want to build overseas, then let them keep their lousy product over there. They shouldn’t be allowed to sell them here.

2. If they spend money on labor overseas then they should not be allowed to declare such expenses as tax breaks. Why should we give tax breaks to companies so they can send that money overseas? Tax breaks are to help companies invest in themselves so that the American economy can prosper, not India's.

groups of computer professionals are searching for ways -- from legislation to tax incentives -- to somehow slow the flow of high-paying jobs overseas.

Let me get this straight. It's all right for computer professionals to automate the jobs of the rest of us out of existence. But how dare we try to get rid of their jobs through greater efficiency!

What goes around . . . welcome to capitalism, baby.
