If Soong is an oriental and the programming jobs are going to orientals, what's the difference? He came here for a job and now finds they are elsewhere? Two wrongs don't make a right.

.... the differance is he is an american and they are not. If he lives with his parents in THIS country then his did not 'come here for a job'. This is getting to be a big issue. The company I work for outsources tech jobs to India, China, and Russia. Putting American engineers out of work. If our manufacturing jobs all go to mexico and the engineering to China, what are we left with? just managers and accountants?

If race matters most, there is no difference.

How do you know that this gentleman came here to get a job? He may be native-born, and he may have come here for because he shares our ideals.

I see no evidence in the article that he is a non-citizen H1B, so that means he's an American just like you and me, and he is unemployed. And since the number of IT positions in the US is actually falling because of offshoring, he is in a field where at age 30, he will likely never hold a job in his field again.

I've said this on every thread on this topic I've posted on: this issue is the Republicans achilles heel, Bush will skate by in 2004, but alot of freepers will be crying in 2008 when Hillary is elected president, asking "who would vote for her?". these folks whose jobs are being gutted by these visa and offshoring practices, add them to the list of people pulling the lever for her.

THAT, is one reason why we continue to have racial and ethnic based divison in this country. There are still people who automatically assume a non-European sounding last name must be a foreigner.

Personal story - you know what I always hated when I was growing up? The qeustion people asked me:

"where are you from?"

"Texas" I answered.

"no, where you are you from originally?"

"Texas", I answered again.

"I mean, where were you born?"

"Texas", I answered once more

"Oh ... where are your parents from?"

"China", I said

"oh, so you are Chinese?"

To our collective credit, I don't get that line of question anymore (well, on rare occasions I still do).

Why do you assume he came to America? Because his last name is Soong?

What? Why is it that people without a western sounding name get treated like sh*t here? Soong may or may not be a native born citizen. But he is a citizen!

The undercurrent of racism here needs to stop. It's demeaning to conservates and FreeRepublic.

Say I was a fortune 500 company and I outsourced my IT to india. My company makes financial software and it is installed in a majority of the fortune 500 companies. My new release has a ton of bugs in it, my Indian programmers didn't do a good job this time, and my customers are going to sue me for the their costs associated with down time. What legal recourse would I have against the Indian software companies?

Next scenario. I have hired a software outsourcing firm in India to do my software development. Not knowing that this software company was owned by a terrorist organization, I hire them to write my next version of software and I deliver that software to all of my fortune 500 financial customers. The software has a defect in it to exit and not run upon reaching the date of 01/01/2005. On Jan 01, 2005 what happens?

This statement is kind of like the moron who said that Michelle Malkin should go back to where she came from... He meant the Phillipines, but she's from Phillidelphia!

Do you know if this guy Soong is "Oriental?" Maybe... But then, some "Orientals" are American citizens, born right here in the USA... So how do you know he came "here" for a job? Maybe he's been here all his life. A college roommate was named Steve Chin. Both of his parents were born in the USA... Does his being an "Asian American" mean that it shouldn't matter if his job goes overseas, since "another Oriental's" going to get the job, "what's the difference?"
