They set very exacting standards for 50% of the exemptions. BofA (or the National Bank of Dumb Shiite, for that matter :) could give you an exemption, but would they? Of course not.

The idea of the hack buddy of the corporate president who gets an exemption is an old wives tale. All of the exemptions today go to Tour-caliber players who have not won enough money yet. As an example, there is a kid in Westchester right now who has won the Big East Conference individual championship three years in a row and is VERY well connected. If exemptions were simply given out to accompished players, he would be a shoe-in for one at the Westchester Classic. But he has not been given one, because he is not good enough.
