The idea of the hack buddy of the corporate president who gets an exemption is an old wives tale. All of the exemptions today go to Tour-caliber players who have not won enough money yet. As an example, there is a kid in Westchester right now who has won the Big East Conference individual championship three years in a row and is VERY well connected. If exemptions were simply given out to accompished players, he would be a shoe-in for one at the Westchester Classic. But he has not been given one, because he is not good enough.

Big East? Not exactly a hotbed of college golf, eh? Has only had an automatic bid to the NCAA's for the last 3 years.....
How's ol' 'xxx' done on the national stage? Kickin' bohunki in the USGA's?
I inserted 'xxx' since the Big East site shows a different Individual Champion for each of the last 10 or so years. Or are you speaking of Pat Fogarty from ~20 years ago?
Heheheh, presidio, whoever said 'you just can't make this stuff up!" never met you, did they? :>)
