SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) - This time there was no mistaking it - the chorus of boos wasn't aimed at the boo-ers.
The same boisterous lot that made Michael Moore one of the most "searched for" names on the Internet after the Academy Awards was back at it Monday when the Drudge Report said Disney would fund Moore's new anti-George Bush documentary.
While virtual chants of "Eisner hates America" and "Boycott all Disney products" reached comical proportions, some people actually tried to maintain some sanity.
AnnAkronism was NOT one of those people:
"Why would a company who supposedly wants to attract families sponsor a divisive idiot like Michael Moore?" she wrote. "A civil war is coming to America, closer with every day and every Marxist assertion by Eisner-Moore. It's especially interesting when the very rich want socialism for the rest of us."
Neither was MMisAJerk, who cast aside that pesky constitution and waxed McCarthy: "I can't believe that the police have not arrested Michael Moore yet for subverting the Bush Administration and speaking out against it?"
And how about some more calm, cool, and collected-ness from Yahoo's AisleSeats: "The word is spreading fast. Emails, faxes, chat rooms, message boards, letters, talk shows, radio. It's starting to roll. The media has been informed. For Disney to fund Michael Moore's next film is the single most anti-American act ever done by a US corporation. It demands action and it will sink Disney!"
The "action" that many of the disgruntled surfers "demanded" was a boycott of all things Mickey.
Clures79 actually tried to push a rational approach - an uphill battle considering the tone on the board: "If Disney refused to hire minorities, I'd boycott them. If Disney skinned dogs to make Goofy's costume, I'd boycott them. And, yes, if Disney were going to give money to Mike Moore, I'd boycott them. It's your money -- spend it how you wish."
Incidentally, the online anti-Disney rally didn't quite steer investors away from the stock just yet. Shares (DIS: news, chart, profile) closed up 2 percent on Monday.
Of course, plenty of would-be Mouseketeers took to the defense. Like FeralPegX, for instance: "Disney and Michael Moore have the right to their opinions. That's called 'freedom of speech.' I don't have to agree with what Michael Moore says and I don't have to watch his films, but he has the right to make them. If you guys all want to boycott Disney, that's fine with me."
Here! Here! From a not-so-cordial G1522: "As for you cry babies canceling your vacations and selling your stock because of this, good riddance -- if you're that stupid Disney doesn't need you. Hopefully the powers that be have assessed the pros and cons and determined that this move will be a positive for the company overall.
"And if you own stock, that ought to be your primary concern"

We'll see who wins this battle. I give Disney a week before they "see the light".

Maybe I am not familar with how to look up people on FR but I can't find them. Am I wrong? Do they exist? Where they made to dissappear by the vast right-wing conspericy? Or didn't the reporter check the facts? Or did the reporter make the whole thing up?

I agree. Disney will wait until this pretty much blows over, and then quietly dump Michael Moore and his project.

I haven't supported anything "Disney" in years; and won't be starting to support them anytime soon. Disney/Eisner are a greedy obnoxious bunch and poor old Walt must be turning in his grave.....
To: McGruff
Michael Moore is a rich, liberal cliche'. People would do well to ignore him.

Just as the Dixie Chicks this will blow over. Disney will be back like always. Give the sheeple who are protesting a couple of free tickest & some ice cream & they will be friends. Tell them not to watch ABC-TV. See how they react.

From the tone of this, it is very easy to guess which political party Shawn Langlois adores.
To: McGruff
This is dumb. Disney will bankroll Moore's movie if they think it will turn a profit. If it does, they will be happy 8^) and may bankroll another. If it flops, they will be unhappy :^( and move on to other, more promising projects by other, more promising producers.
Its just business.
To: McGruff
We havent' bought Disney products in years. Too expensive. This is NOT the company of the originator Mr. Walt Disney. I think he would be angered beyond belief to see how his idea for family entertainment has been sullied. All in the name of the Almighty dollar and GREED!
To: Sinner6
you are looking on the wrong board. The artilce is about the CBS board not free republic.

I think we ought to welcome Moore's and Disney's "documentary." It will be nice to see the likes of Moore (and Disney) go down the tube by their own hand.
When I think of Moore doing a "documentary" on the Bushes, I mentally see a comic picture of Moore well down inside a toilet bowl with his hand pushing down on the handle.
With any luck, as they both spiral down the flushed tube, they'll get more crap dumped on their heads from massive numbers of fiercely indignant Americans. I can hardly wait. It will back-up and overflow. It will be a glorious sight to behold. ROTFLMAO.
Finally, average Americans at last will be able to see the disinformative, mean-spirited, pro-communist, pro-socialist, baby-killing gutter-waders for the kind of people they really are.
Any so-called "documentary" on Pres. Bush made by Moore that makes it to the screens next year will only be seen as election year political slime. Moore takes a back seat to no one in that regard. He does slime better than anyone I know of.
Perhaps through Moore's and Disney's efforts, they will help seal the political fate of the ilk they have supported for a long, long time....hammering the last nails in their coffins.

All in the name of the Almighty dollar and GREED! That's the American way. I don't mean to be facetious but corporations are there to make money for their shareholders.
