Assault Weapons Ban : not any more - its way worse.
NRA ^
Posted on 05/12/2003 4:56:44 PM PDT by OOPisforLiberals
All you anti-AWB people : listen closely. The "extended" assault weapons ban would ban TONS of guns, including ALL semi-automatic shotguns, ALL shotguns that hold < 5 rounds, M1 Garand, Mini-14, ALL semi-autos that can have > 10 rounds with or without fixed magazine.
Gives the attorney general the ability to declare a gun "not sporting" and subsequently ban it.
That's right folks, its the big one. They want 'em all. -Still- feel playing complacent about them not taking away your guns? If this goes through, handguns are toast in <= 5 years. 30 caliber rifles next. Then, there's not much left.
Its bad.

Nah....It appears from Travis's member page he has a beard.
I like 'em smooth with no hair! LOL!
OH! You meant swampin' dirty. Ah yes....swampin' exercises...wet black stinkin' goo up to your thighs, mosquitoes buzzing around your head like a fog, jungle boots squishing with every step, bug spray on so think it makes your face camo drip...but keep your ammo and weapon dry. If it is does get wet don't forget to crack the action before letting loose with a round! Now THAT's dirty the way the Good Lord made 'dirty'! :)

If so, that is cool. I'd love to build a plane....not sure I'd want to test it out though! :)
Thanks for the info.

You just do not want to mess with a voting block of 5 million + voters. he NRA is not the only pro-gun organization.Guns are not really my issue, Im more into monetary and social subjects. But it doesn't take a genius to figure out where the gun grabbers want to take us. I don't belong to the NRA or the GOA, but if they pass this law, MANY of us are going to be highly upset. The Republicans had better watch it. Your 5 million estimate is too low, IMHO.

That is exactly what happened in England. They banned everything so street punks bought fully automatic weapons. Now, they have machine gun fights on the streets. You might as well get all the firepower you every wanted if EVERYTHING is illegal.

My personal gut instinct says neither bill will make it to GWB's desk. There are not the votes in the House of Representatives to get it there.

This bill, if passed, will come to the President's desk barely one month before the general election; what a "poison pill" that would be.
Poison pill? I don't think so. This issue is not high on the average American's priorities. There is only a few Commies/Libs that it is. We've got plenty of time to write our Congressman/woman that it's political death if they vote for the bill.

If Ron Paul had his way, the only Gun Laws would be those enacted by the States... and soon enough, New York and California would ban Guns entirely, while Texas would probably allow "open-carry" on the city streets.
The only problem with this is it creates an equal protection issue, along with the fact that the Second Amendment contains no limiting language similar to the First, i.e., "Congress shall make no law..."
Like it or not, nine of the amendments in the Bill of Rights have been "incorporated" so as to stand as a shield between a citizen and both the Federal and State governments. The Second Amendment has yet to undergo that anlaysis, but there is a line of legal theory that postulates that there is almost no prohibition to incorporation - and that the case for incorporation is stronger due to the underlying purpose of the Second (armed populace to keep government in line) and the lack of limiting language.
Add to the issue the interruption of interstate commerce through a purely state jurisdictional lawsuit and I believe Mr. Paul made the wrong call on this issue. (and I love the guy)

I believe you may have hit on the sordid truth that will confront us over this. I pray not, I pray, as some others have mentioned, that this holds up the whole thing and nothing ever reaches the President.
But statesmanship is about doing what is right and politics is about compromise. We are saddled with a bunch of meeley mouthed, self-serving politicians in far, far too many cases. They are more than willing to compromise fundamental rights to advance their own careers, ambitions, vices and ideology ... and thereby violate their oaths.
God preserve the Republic, and help us all to be as active as necessary in ensuring that preservation.

Mike my friend, you are a hoot!. I notice the term "old geezer" was not mentioned within 400 yards of any of those so named.
hehehe
But, if I we are to be labeled "old geezers", that's fine ... labels are also good camo ... I would challenge the "young geezers" to keep up with us on a hike up a 10,000 ft. mountain range here in my local vicinity. We can train together and see who is most useful after a day of hard humping up and down those rough old hills.
... just give me 3-4 weeks to get ready, ok?
LOL!

You pegged it bro ... but it can also be used for the opposite effect if we are not careful .... compromised back to just the AWB to show how the worthless politicians "saved the day".

Besides the lone gunmen gone psycho setup, just before september. Does anyone think the crazies on the left will behave during the Dem convention?
It seems to me, the left thought they had taken(stolen) the country in 2000 and have pretty much wigged out since. Notice even when they are called on their communist backgrounds or their anti-American activities they are surly and defiant, instead of even the lamest of denials.
If their rent-a-mobs act up in cities across the country, the nearly hasbeen media will play it up like it's Armageddon, because they also feel power slipping away, just when they thought they were about to rule the world.
I was a kid in 68, and knew nothing about much of anything, but I remember the effect of the rioting on the grownups around me.
I wonder if there will be a concerted effort to destabilize the nation, in order to give cover to this legislation and allow the left to make their move.
It's been my experience that pubs always backstab their constituents to appease their enemies.
Let them prove me wrong, but I won't bet the farm on them.

Let the bastards try it.
Whew! Thank goodness the M1 Garand only loads 8 rounds! < /sarcasm >
Seriously, talk about a mixed message. The legislative body tries to force this sort of garbage on us, but meanwhile, the Army is putting thousands of WWII battle rifles in civilian hands through the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Draw your own conclusions, folks.
Time for another FReeper postal match, perhaps?

I wonder if there will be a concerted effort to destabilize the nation, in order to give cover to this legislation and allow the left to make their move. I pray not. Too many folks still up in arms and on their guard over 9-11 and terror in general. Too easy to back fire on them the other way.
But, possible nonetheless given the nature of the enemy. For a good read on how it could happen, check out the excerpts of Travis Mcgee's book:
Enemies Foreign and Domestic
It's a barnstormer. A great read about this very issue. Well thought out and all too plausible.

I need to see the bill. I've learned not to get too excited about what is supposed to be in a bill or measure until I've actually read it. So many, many times I've been told a bill or measure says something that, in reality, it didn't say at all. That being said, if what is reported to be in the bill IS IN FACT in the bill, and that is the bill that Bush said he will sign, then he is a one-term president, no doubt about it. That bill would be the last major step to a complete ban of all privately-owned firearms. Not only would I not vote for Bush if he signs this abomination, but I would actively campaign against him. And when the JBTs start marching down our streets and into our homes, it will be too late, for the time to stop that horror is before it happens.
To: Eastbound
"If, in the wisdom of our leaders, this Bill is extended, everyone should vote for hillary and let's get this gun confiscation thing over with as quickly as possible. We should set the example and be the first member-nation of the UN to completely unload."
So, you will just surrender. That's too bad. As for me, I subscribe to that classic line of John Wayne's character Ethan Edwards in "The Searchers": "Surrender? Nope, I don't believe in surrenders. And I didn't turn my saber into no plowshare, either."
