These people are trained. All of our TV stations hire stormchasers. They warn all amateurs that haven't been trained to stay out of the way.
The ones for the Center and OU are also scientists studying the storms. Their vehicles they drive around here look right out of the movie Twister.

My word, I am learning a lot of tornadoes the last few days.
Tuesday night, we went through a watch in the basement. It hit four miles from us and multiple spottings of funnels much closer.
Our town does not even have sirens.
