MY KID'S TEACHER
My Kid's Teacher

Just before going to bed tonight, as I kissed my oldest boy good night, he perked up and reminded me of the note his teacher had sent home on Friday. I assured him that I would read it, and tucked him in.
I knew that the note was about the upcoming School Book Fair, he attended his first one last year, and it was a great experience for him. It was the first time he was trusted with money to spend all on his own.
He is a First grader with Third Grade reading skills, I was an avid reader as a kid, and every time I see him sitting with a book on his lap, I feel like I'm walking on air.
I went downstairs and looked for the note, I wanted to see what was expected of him, and how payment for the books would be handled.
I have copied the note word by word below, the note written, and sent home, by the person who is teaching my boy to read and write.
I have left the particulars out for obvious reasons.
I am sending the note to Tallahassee, and asking for this teacher's removal.

Our class has ran out of tissue boxes, if possible, please send a box to our class. Remember this doozie from Neil Boortz, Teaching Your Children That They Have No Property Rights from 8/5/02? Excerpt:
In many schools I know, not all, but in a growing number of schools the government agent we call a "teacher" will announce to every child in the class that they are to march to the front of the room and place all of their supplies
their rulers, pencils, crayons, notebooks
ALL of their supplies
in a big box. The teacher will announce that these supplies now belong to ALL of the students and will be made available to all students as needs arise. Your child will be told that there are some students in the class whose parents couldn't afford all of the items on the list, and this just isn't fair. To make things fair we'll all just share.

A similar situation happened when my daughter was in high school. I went to a parent-teacher conference only to discover that my daughter's English teacher had resigned and was replaced with a substitute teacher for the rest of the semester.
The sub introduced herself with a letter. While reading the letter I discovered 28 errors in grammar, spelling, etc. The next day I took it to the English department of a local college. A professor verified my findings and found some additional errors. The professor agreed that it was completely inexcusable for an English teacher to send out a letter of such poor quality. She even asked if she could use the letter as a quiz for her students. (Find the errors in the poorly written letter.)
When I brought the letter to my daughter's school, the administrators refused to do anything about it so I copied the letter and sent copies to the Board of Education, school administrators, head of the English department of the school, and our governor. I raised h### until they transferred her out of the English department.
There is no excuse for hiring people to teach English when the person has absolutely no credentials to do so. If I were you, I would bring the note to the school's attention. We pay good money to have our children educated, we should not have to put up with this. If a teacher is so inept as to send home a badly written letter or note, what kind of sloppy job is he/she doing in the classroom?

My kids' teacher is their Mama and my wife.
She has the grammar thing down pat. She taught our adopted Siberean, Vanya, English; and has also diagnosed (with some help) a real learning disability, due to his birth defect, cleft palate.
She is working with his abilities.
Other son, Ben tested at 99th percentile in state mandated testing last year.
Cost to the taxpayers: $0.00
Satisfaction for this family: Priceless.

I'm on several e-mail lists, and one I got today was the living end. Apparently, the writer had misplaced her S key - every word with an ezz in it waz zpelled with a zee.
I can't remember when I was last so annoyed.

I tried that with my son's fifth-grade teacher in California back in 1975; she had sent home a list of words to serve as a spelling guide -- 3 out of 6 of the words were misspelled.
I wrote a note and sent it back to school with Jeff; the next night he brought home a note from the teacher saying, "I am sorry I mispelled[sic] one of the words."
I returned a note informing her that she had misspelled misspelled.
The next evening I was presented with another note from her that began, "I am sorry that you don't like me..."
I wisely ceased all attempts at communication.

Why the hell is she asking you for tissues? That's common. They have plenty of money for "facilitators" and "consultants" at the school district HQ, but no money for paper, pens, pencils, or tissue paper, so they ask the parents to supply those. The only reason they don't make you buy the books, is that you might read them and that wouldn't do.
