PITTSBURGH (AP) A man who hunted deer on his own property will spend 15 years in federal prison because he was a convicted felon, and therefore not allowed to possess a gun.

Jack C. Altsman, 43, of Beaver Falls, received the mandatory sentence Friday from U.S. District Judge Terrence McVerry.

Or their families. Don't forget that the felon cannot even have access to a firearm. They are treated worse than a supervised 6 year old.

You ought to retitle the article as "ex con stupidly in possession of weapon gets the sentence he deserves".

And why should a convicted felon who has paid his debt to society not have a right to possess a gun? Is that in the consitution somewhere under shall not be infringed?

Probably a "camp" that his family has..Alot of guys around here have "camps" (10-20 acres of land bought real cheap out in nowhere) 50-60 miles away from where they live. I know three guys in the immediate area of me that have "camps"

Very plausible. No where in each of the articles(Ap and Trib) does it state where Altsmen was arrested for his felonies. I wonder if a neighbor, who may have been a victim of his felony, called the state game commissioner saying that he was hunting with a rifle and that he was a felon.

Stupid evil laws are supported by stupid evil people. This sort of nonsense reduces the respect that reasonable people feel for rational laws and to legitimate government.

Stupid people that defend career criminals are stupid.

"Either this guy paid his debt to society or he did not."

Yes. The truth to this is simple: The statists in government will use any and every excuse to disarm the populace.

Has anybody stopped to think that perhaps this guy used a weapon in the commission of his crimes? I know the article doesn't say it, but it's still a possibility, especially since journalists conveniently leave important facts like that out when writing their articles.

The VA has already given up information regarding some vets who have had treatment of PTSD and possibly other ailments that could prevent them from ever owning a firearm again.

Everything in that post is correct.

With 22,000 gun laws in place, with a little investigation, many on this board would find themselves in violation of at least one.

Esp. in goof-ball states like NJ.

What I would like to know...did the state sell him a Hunting License?

They didn't have to, he was on his own property.

If the felonious crimes the guy had committed did NOT involve the use of a firearm, then he should be allowed to use them.

The eastern seaboard is no place to be a sportsman...

You know, all this talk about the Constitution is a waste of breath. It's as dead as a hammer anyway. If the pols thought they could get re-elected after a right-wing round up, they'd be at our doors right now. We're nothing but a doomed to failure democracy. I have quotes from various statist pig representatives where they boast how they can do "whatever they want."

It's a shame the people let this happen. I blame the TV.

"He should havbe tried bow hunting!;~) "

Obviously this man was not a big fan of The Dukes of Hazard.
They were felons and would have gone to jail if in possesion of firearms so they used bows.
Great show.

I find it hard to believe that if the man had used an "evil gun" the "journalist" would have failed to mention it.

They didn't have to, he was on his own property.

Lets see, the gays demand the right to take over our culture with their Aids-causing acts of depravity, and think whatever they want to do is okay, even though it violates the moral laws that Western Civilization was based on.

But a guy trying to hunt on his own property is thrown in jail for 15 years.

This is really really getting to be a screwed up country, thanks to the socialist Democrats.

Yes, the country is in a poop of a mess because of the authoritarians.

But excuse some of us if we aren't prepared to hoist the white flag to the kool-aid drinking leftists.
