I'm a Los Angeles-area resident. Wish I could see the President, but it's a workday and he's not coming to this neck of the woods. Nevertheless, my heart will be with him and the sailors, marines and families of the Lincoln battle group. The President will probably get all of about 30 seconds worth of coverage in the L.A. TV market, if that much. Drat! Grumble! Growl!

SAN DIEGO -- President George W. Bush will visit San Diego next Thursday.

The commander in chief will fly out to the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier that night and give a speech. The next day it will arrive in San Diego and leave its fighter wing and some its battle-group support ships in San Diego.

The Lincoln is then scheduled to return to its home port of Everett, Wash.

The USS Mobile Bay and USS Shiloh, which returned to their home port of San Diego on Friday, are both part of the Lincoln's battle group.

The president will arrive in town on Thursday, then make the jump to the Lincoln while it is at sea and depart the carrier prior to its arrival in San Diego.

The president hopes the maneuver will allow him to not interfere with family reunions when the carrier docks in San Diego on Friday.

The Lincoln has been deployed for 10 months, the longest that any ship in the Navy has currently been at sea.

On Friday, Bush will leave the ship and travel to Santa Clara, Calif., and give another speech.
