[history]
WASHINGTON (AP) -President Bush will travel to California next week to talk about the economy and national security and spend the night on an aircraft carrier as it returns from the war in Iraq, the White House announced today.
Bush will fly to San Diego and make a speech Thursday aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been at sea for nearly nine months, longer than any U.S. carrier group now on duty. On Friday, he will leave the ship and travel to Santa Clara, where he will make remarks on the economy and national security.

This is really kool spending the night on the Abraham Lincoln (R.Ill.) with the heroes.
Whoever advises President Bush on his appearances has more good ideas than a June bride.

I believe this is his first visit back to California since last year's election cycle if I'm not mistaken, and probably the first of many before 2004.

Pure speculation but I would think Santa Clara U. I wouldn;t want him to have to be riding on the roads of San Jose without his own pick-up in hand, what with all the potholes. ;-)
But who knows, he might go and do it at the brand new Martin Luther King Library at San Jose State or Stanford.
Developing, as they say .. :-)

Speed Channel.. Qualifying just started at Fontana for Food City 500 this Sunday on Fox.
It will be so weird with a race being run in the middle of the afternoon for a change.
Honk as you drive by on 101 thru San Jose next week, Good Buddy ! :-)

Do you think Pres. Bush is doing this because of the recall on ol grayout? Hearing that the Capitol bunch don't like the recall process.... ;o)

I'm a Los Angeles-area resident. Wish I could see the President, but it's a workday and he's not coming to this neck of the woods. Nevertheless, my heart will be with him and the sailors, marines and families of the Lincoln battle group. The President will probably get all of about 30 seconds worth of coverage in the L.A. TV market, if that much. Drat! Grumble! Growl!

Honk as you drive by on 101 thru San Jose next week, Good Buddy ! :-)The last time I used 101 northbound I ended up on Treasure Island because I didn't believe the "Last SF exit". I could write a book about that "Detour" LOL
I always use 19th ave and Hiway 1. I spent 6 months in the Shriners Hospital on 19th in 1945/46. Glad to see they saved the old wing.
To: tubebender
I like the PCH 1 route myself as well.
Last SF Exit.. and they ain't kidding! It's a doozie!
