With 30,000 gay revelers expected for this weekend's "White Party" in Palm Springs -- a festival famous for sex and substance abuse -- public health officials and some gay leaders worry openly that it will fan an epidemic of syphilis.
For the last two years, cases of the sexually transmitted disease have risen dramatically in the Palm Springs area and throughout the state, driven almost exclusively by gay and bisexual men.

Not to mention AIDS and other STD-s.
Normally I stay away from such topics, but I saw on TV the intent to put a memorial in an LA park and I looked up an article in the LA times, and found this.

They expect government funds to pay for their memorials, for their treatments, sympthy, while they continue to engage in highly irresponsible behavior.

There, of course, has been news of this in the local Palm Springs paper (we live 30 miles east). One of their big kickoff events is at Knott's "Soak City" (no pun intended).....I certainly hope Knott's bleaches the hell out of that pond before reopening to the innocent public...

Maybe they will call it a "SYPHTIVAL".

If there is substance abuse going on, why don't the police break this up with arrests?

This country is literally going to hell. A society cannot survive when there are no moral values.

AIDS, STD, Syphilis--All this can be prevented. In fact the longevity among the homosexuals would increase 100%. The Bible does speak of perverted sex. If you participate ya gotta face the consequences.

Not to mention that non-treatable bacteria that used to be confined to hospitals but has now made its way into the gay community. We go halfway across the world to stop people with biological weapons while, at the same time, we let them roam freely in Palm Springs, CA.

One of these days Klinton will turn up at one of these shindigs, with the Chappaquiddick Scuba Driver on his arm. Say, what ever happened to Jerry Studds, that other bone smoker from Cape Cod? Was he carried off by a spirochete or is he just off writing his memoirs?

It's amazing that you had to insert the word "Gay" into the headline. It belongs there as a critical piece of information. The casual reader, upon reading the original headline, might think that they are talking about the midevil festival that he is planning on taking his kids to, or perhaps a big fourth of July celebration.
However, the key word "gay" immediatley tells me that it is nowhere that I am going to be, so I don't have to worry about it.
