Nominations for Free Republic's Garofalo Awards are being accepted on this thread.
The Garofalo--ready-to-eat stuffed crows on a platter--will be awarded to prominent individuals in the media and elsewhere whose histrionic predictions of doom and gloom before and/or during Operation Iraqi Freedom stand head and shoulders above all others for their shrillness, certainty, and apocalyptic ravings.
To be nominated, the person must meet the criteria. Documentation will be needed (not necessarily provided by the nominator) to provide specific reasons when announcing the winners as to why they were singled out for special recognition.
Ten Garofolos will be awarded. We will do our best to present them to any winners who attend the White House Correspondents Association dinner April 26 when the D.C. Chapter holds its 5th annual freep there of liberal bias in the media.
Janeane Garofalo, whom the award is named for, is eligible to win.
Nominations close Sunday, April 20 at 3 p.m. EDT. Voting will commence on a new thread soon thereafter.

... the "Michael-Moore-is-a-Big-Fat-Idiot" Award
Michael Moore comes to mind, of course, but we should really ask Rush. I'm sure there are more. :-)

Deepest Depression over Victory
The nominees are
Judy Woodruff
Katie Couric
Excellent!

The Garofalo. LOL. Excellent. It's good for families to have traditions. :)

Maybe the Doctor and Dag could work something out.

how long is the longest banner that the art store sells?
5 or 6 yards. But I already bought you a new banner since you made such good use of the last one. I think the one I bought was 4 or 5 years long. I have it in my living room. We will talk.

"The Smartest President in History" fraud also exposes the stupid bastard as being entirely ignorant of the capabilities of the assets at his command and doubley damns him for his eight years of...
I've been staring at this for five minutes now and for once I'm just too mad to express myself. Not even a string of the vilest invective that I'm capable of can suffice.

I've followed McCaffrey's analysis pretty closely, and I don't think he deserves the criticism leveled against him in this and other fora. He had a legitimate concern, that the force concentration was not going to be sufficient to prevent a long-drawn out conflict with 1000s of Coalition casualties. Better to be safe than sorry. There is no question, though, that he was in favor of this attack on Iraq and celebrated its success. I, too, predicted to friends and students that the attack would cost up to 10,000 Coalition troops, but I thought that it would be worth it and justified. Maybe on another forum we could list all of the ex-generals and pundits and administration officials who predicted victory in 3 1/2 weeks and fewer than 150 casualties. That would be pretty small list.

Come up with a name for what Ellen Ratner did before the war even started.
"The true colors of the Liberal Left exposed"
"Quagmire Alert"
My mouth started moving before my brain award"
Or the "Trent Lott award for not being held accountable"
When she said on Neil Cavuto's Show that she "hoped" President Bush would "mess up the war" so he would "not be reelected."
Also perhaps a nice award for Michael Kelly and David Bloom who sacrificed their lives to tell the truth while embedded.

Ten Garofolos will be awarded.
Ten? Only ten? So many candidates.....

RummyChick votes Sarandon and Robbins
Bigg Red says:
Maybe Sarandon and Mr. Sarandon should be deliberately disqualified. Why give them more material for their movie about their plight as the victims of the new blacklisting?
(In their case, hacklisting.)
First, Sheen started the al-Asqshole martyr brigade and now these clymers have joined. They are begging to be targeted, so I would not vote for them.

I humbly nominate myself.
I thought this war would be much more difficult and costly in lives and treasure. But I never for a minute opposed it. It would have been worth doing even at a much higher price, IMHO.

"Only ten Garofolos...." I know, I know. The field of candidates is so very HUGE! Judging will be extremely difficult to narrow them down to only ten Garofolos!

Does the category "sore losers" count in this contest?
"'I have absolutely no regret about my vote (against) this war. The same questions remain. The cost in human lives, the cost to our budget, probably 100 billion. We could have probably brought down that statue for a lot less." - Nancy Pelosi

I vote for Bagdhad Bob. Don't know if he's assumed a new job as a DNC press secretary yet.
To: kristinn
Heck, why not make a special award for the most biased journalist and name it after Baghdad Bob
To: Angelwood
What? no response to my #112? I thought it was pretty good.
