You're right. No one I know needs to be reminded (except for my lib sister in-law, but she doesn't count), but I'm sure there are people who do. In fact, I'm positive I work with most of them.

This is all I want to see re. Clinton:
Conducting Foreign Relations Without Authority: The Logan Act
Abstract: The Logan Act was intended to prohibit United States citizens without authority from interfering in relations between the United States and foreign governments. There appear to have been no prosecutions under the Act in its almost 200 year history. However, there have been a number of judicial references to the Act, and it is not uncommon for it to be used as a political weapon. Although attempts have been made to repeal the Act, it remains law and at least a potential sanction to be used against anyone who without authority interferes in the foreign relations of the United States.

Mort buys the "we protected oil but not artifacts" line.
Others slapping him upside the head (figuratively, of course).

I think that the most compelling films would be the PFC Jessica Lynch story or the story of the other rescued POW's and those who rescued them. I think the story of Richard Engle, Pretty Chicken Live at the Palestine would by a rip roaring comedy! Someone on Fox said there was already a title for the Jessica Lynch story. "I am an American soldier, Too." As to the Pretty Chicken story, I could not judge, because I am soooo sloooow I could not tie up the bandwidth with BagCam. I regret that a lot.

If the rescue of Jessica Lynch is made into a movie, it must include all of the details and not end with getting her on that helicopter. They must include the finding of the bodies of the others and the digging up with their hands and retrieving them so they could be brought home. It must. I would think a prominent part of the movie would cover the Iraqi lawyer, "Mohammad", who risked it all, and the Iraqi doctor that helped.

I would like to see this: A "Longest Day" sort of approach. One story line Pvts. Lynch and Piestewa. One of the journalists. A line of the race to Baghdad, either a tank or the 3rd LAR of the first Marines. A little bit of flying, and fighting in an Apache. Toss in a little of the Brits in Basra. And a vignette on how a coordinated bombing attack is made on a presidential palace. The only thing missing would be John Wayne as Gen. Tommy Franks.

If we didn't have a T1 line at work, I wouldn't have seen it either. I have dial-up and home and I would suffer withdrawl at night and on the weekends.
He was such a dope! Always whining because his hair wasn't right. Putting his vest on just for the camera. I always imagined him screaming like Ned Flanders (high pitched womans scream in case you're not a Simpsons fan) when the bombs were really dropping one Friday afternoon.

I don't believe we had the 10,000 in the country that was rumoured. Maybe not even 100.On what information do you base that conclusion? And why would Uday's house be of interest to them?

You're talking to the wrong person, n-a-o. I'm trusting the people at the top to handle this professionally and as deliberately as they have the rest of the operation. First comes securing the areas. While they've destroyed major combat capabilities of the regime, there are still pockets of resistance, many areas they haven't yet secured...that is the top priority. Next - taking out the regime leaders. When and where they find info, weapons, etc., they do send a site exploration team to investigate, tag info, etc., for further study later...remove where necessary. It is an ENORMOUS job. This is a big country with 3 decades worth of potential horrors to investigate.
Major Bob said today that our guys will be busier than ever now, as areas are secured and people come forward with information...it is very difficult and dangerous work.
If the newspeople uncover stuff...fine, it helps our guys. They have over 1000 sites they're investigating and more all the time. It will take years, but the regime is gone in a month. Our guys rock! To quote Rummy, "now is the time for patience."

Compare Engle to David Bloom...this is from "The Corner" at nationalreview.com...
DAVID BLOOM'S LAST E-MAIL [Rod Dreher]
NBC reporter David Bloom, who died last week in Iraq, sent a final e-mail to his wife on the eve of his death. It was eerily prescient, almost an epitaph. David was a born-again Christian; a friend of mine who was in a men's prayer and Bible-study group with him says David was passionately devoted to his family and his God. That friend told me David's last e-mail was read aloud in a deeply moving Friday meeting with his prayer partners, at which a number of David's NBC colleagues were present. It was no surprise to those who knew David best, it seems, when he said in that communique (this taken from the MSNBC.com story): [W]hen the moment comes in my life when you are talking about my last days, I am determined that you and others will say he was devoted to his wife and children, he was admired, he gave every ounce of his being for those whom he cared most about
not himself, but God and his family."

All of that and the feint attack that drew off the hospital defenders. In my amateur opinion it has Oscar potential anywhere except Wankerwood.

There really is no comparison. It's like comparing Wal-Mart to Tiffany. Or Payless to Jimmy Choo. It's not even close in quality or content.

I would like to take this time to publicly express my appreciation to General Tommy Franks, for finishing the war in time for me to get my new roses planted and my yard cleaned up.
