Interesting live footage on CNN

Posted on 04/12/2003 9:27:32 PM PDT by saquin

CNN reporter Brent Sadler traveling on a road very near Tikrit. The retired military officer in the studio keeps telling him to be careful. I find these live shots very nerve-wracking. It seems rather foolish for a reporter to be doing this, considering that Tikrit is a Saddam stronghold. Just a heads-up in case anyone is interested.

Why hand it off to CNN international now.

Maybe they know something we don't. Anderson never even said goodbye.

This Brit dude is like something on Monty Python.

Especially if it caused the death of one of their crew. May God be merciful and spare this person's life.

meanwhile, FNC reporting that Tikrit could fall without a fight, but there could still be small pockets of resistance.

Yup, I'd say so.

Don't worry; CNN will run those films all day tomorrow and Brett will be on all day long, explaining how he did it for us, not ratings.

Interesting point...I hadn't thought of the effect of their interloping.

Hm.  On the one hand that thought seems nuts but on the other....Hmmmmm.

Wouldn't our side have found a way to stop them if that was the case?

these stupid a$$holes could end up causing our troops negociating with the chieftans to get killed. If that happens the FCC needs to yank CNN off the airwaves.

Bears repeating. People shooting up checkpoints may gum up the works on a peaceful solution to Tikrit. Just because a reporter wanted to show off.

So has CNN screwed up the surrender by entering the area and firing at the Iraqi's?

That's exactly what my husband said. I want to hear THAT conversation with Rummy.

Everyone at CNN was probably just woken up, and the anchor is probably in the bathroom throwing up, so they switch over to CNNI until they can regain their composure, and figure out how many political problems that they just created for themselves. CNN just made Iraq much more dangerous for ALL reporters. They are going to feel serious heat over this one.

The Brit who's teeth are glued together. I CANNOT STAND LISTENING TO HIM

Hearing him telling us about the CNN vehicle whose "rear window that has just been shot out" sounds so sterile and boring.

Bagdad Bob says -
They were never in Tikrit. It was all a movie. They aren't even in Iraq. We BarBQ their bellies at the border.

Other notes: If they'd gone to see the Govner like they were told, instead of making a run out of the city, they wouldn't have looked so much like SPIES and they might not have gotten shot at. 20/20 hindsight.

If they are going to be doing this they need to mount a 25MM Chain Gun on the lead vehicle.

At one point, Sadler identified the vehicle with the rear windows shot out as a "security vehicle." Plus, he had an armed security guy (with a "machine gun") in his vehicle.
It sounds like they had several weapons in the convoy, and it makes sense that the security car took most of the fire as it would have been firing back.
So, I hope they are safe, but it seems like CNN went in well armed and got themselves into a firefight.
Media people got upset because Geraldo hinted that he was "totin" - will CNN give itself the same criticism?
