Mother stabs son to death for refusing to make his bed

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

JERUSALEM

A woman stabbed her son to death in a dispute over his refusal to get off the computer and make his bed, police said Tuesday.

Yelena Avramenko, 49, later admitted to killing her son, Denis, 26, and re-enacted the crime in front of investigators, police said.

"I asked him a number of times to stop playing on the computer and to go and make his bed," the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot quoted the mother as saying.

"After a while I saw him lying on his bed. I asked him again to make his bed but he just cursed me. I got angry and went to the kitchen, and in the heat of the moment I took a knife and stabbed him," she said, according to the paper's Web site.

Police said that at the time of the incident, late Monday, the mother appeared to have been sober, but by the time police arrived at the scene she was drunk and incoherent.

Both mother and son were unemployed. They arrived in Israel two years ago from the former Soviet Union, police said.

An Israeli court on Tuesday ordered the mother held in custody.

Right. I had to get up at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down at the mill and pay the mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our mother and father would kill us and dance on our graves singing Halleluja.

Monty Python, Four Old Yorkshiremen.

If you changed "mother" for "wife" that's in fact how most women pretty much feel about their husbands.

Give me a break. It is true that "most" women will tolerate any kind of abuse from their "baby daddies" or "boyfriends," those of us who respect ourselves and the men we love enough to get married do NOT feel this way about our husbands. If you have issues with men, they are yours alone. The rest of us liked them so much we married them, and happen to think they are just fine, thank you.

Of course she has to keep him supplied in cigarettes too.

I vigorously dispute the bolded part above. If she's allowing that leech to hang around, she's anabling him and doing him no favors. Boot his young butt out of the house and let him buy his own damn smokes.

I got a 56 year old sister who works her tail off so her worthless 22 yr old son can roll out of bed at the crack of noon, surf the web and play computer games until the wee hours of the night. Kid can't keep a job so now he doesn't even bother to look!!

So many mothers allow their adult children to live with them (and actually encourage it). I don't understand the phenomenon myself. This is one issue that my wife and I are in 180 degree opposition to each other. I am looking forward to the day that my two boys grow up and go out on their own. Not that they are bad kids or that I don't want them around but because I want for them what I obtained for myself - total independence at an early age. There is no other feeling in the world like it. Frankly, I would be very disappointed and will consider myself a failure as a parent if my kids are having trouble finding jobs and/or still hanging around the house in their adulthood.

My wife on the other hand dreads the day that they will grow up and leave home and if it were up to her, they'd never leave.

My aunt, roughly the same age as your sister, is in the very same spot. Every time I see her loser of a 22 year old son, I have to fight the urge to belt him in the mouth for being him.

No wife should have to put up with that from their husbands either. Loafing around the house unemployed (unless you happen to be independently wealthy) is unacceptable behavior for an adult and should not be tolerated. And even if one is independently wealthy, there are far better things to be doing with one's life than sleeping until noon and playing computer games all day.

Lit cigarettes to the soles of the feet are much more effective, and they don't leave externally visible scars.

;)

I moved out, and took my brother with me, the first week I started my first job @ 19. I had a 2 bedroom 2 bath swinging bachelor apartment and it was the coolest.

Glad to hear that. What has happened in NY and some other areas is that the immigrant population is crammed into a very small area. That type of crowding leads to anti-social behaviour. There is a serious Russian mafia problem in parts of NY.

This is one issue that my wife and I are in 180 degree opposition to each other.

This supports the time tested concept of a traditional family. There is a balance between the protective nature of a Real Man when the young are vulnerable, and the nurturing side of a Mom that tends to go on after the little ones are ready to take off.
