To sum up the recent action: For an entire 24-hour news cycle, all the networks were shouting "THEY'RE AT THE AIRPORT, THE AIRPORT!!!"

So the Iraqis counterattack at the airport, and are slaughtered.

Now tonight "They're IN BAGHDAD, RIGHT INSIDE THE CITY! No, wait, they went to the airport, too. No, wait, there's another group of them IN THE CENTER OF BAGHDAD. Hold on, they just captured the Republican Guard HQ 35 miles south of town. Hold it, they're in the WESTERN SUBURBS,TOO!"

Clearly, Rumsfeld cut too many ground troops. He wanted to fight this on the cheap, and he got what he wanted.
