A Navy dolphin tasked with hunting for mines in the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr went absent without leave for more than 48 hours last week. The dolphin, named Tacoma, eventually returned to duty on Friday, safe and sound. But that hasn

I just wish that the animals' activities hadn't been mentioned in the news, not just because of PETA's overreaction, but because of the loss of secrecy in covert actions such as sea lions tagging the enemy without the swimmer knowing. Now the dolphins and sea lions might be looked for and killed by the bad guys.

Why has PETA overlooked the fact that those dolphins can leave any time they want to?

I read a story about a week ago I guess that one of them did! He was AWOL for two days. There were no details or speculation about were he hung out for the 48 hours, but like all sailors from ages past, one only has to use a bit of imagination. ;)

I was wondering if anyone remembered what those were . . . OUCH!
While I revere the WWII generation, I am too young to be one of them. I learned about the Pro-Kit from older folks.
The Pro-Kit was NOT funny, it was painful (or so I am told).

Yes, it was. I am also too young to have been issued one. (only 47) However, I was stationed with a Vet from Korea who kept a few for history. He even opened one and framed the contents. Had it hanging in his office.
OUCH! is right! I now know why that generation is refered to as REAL MEN!

I once met a retired Gunnery Sergeant who had been in stationed in Japan. Lee Harvey Oswald was in his outfit. He described Oswald as a perpetual discipline problem.

This is the same organization that sent a letter to Yasser Arafat complaining that one of his 'homicide bombers' blew up a donkey (no people). They asked that Arafat see to it that innocent animals were left out of the Palestinian conflict.
When the president of PETA was asked at a news conference whether she was concerned about human victims of the Palestian murderers, she replied that worrying about humans wasn't her job.
I kind of thought concern for humans was something all human beings (other than middle east Muslims) should consider part of their job description, but I guess I was wrong.
