Toronto's RALLY FOR AMERICA
-- Why Concerned Canadians Should Attend......



April 4, 2003: Today, at noon, a non-profit coalition called Friends of America is holding a rally in Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto. The purpose is officially to "show that we love, respect & support our friends, neighbours, and allies" and unofficially (this part is my own spin) to tell the United States that we're not all as insensitive, ungrateful, and spineless as our leader, M. Chretien, and his Liberal government.

To my fellow Canadians, I say, let's show the Americans that ordinary Canadians are actually behind them, and that it's the political and intellectual elites that are the ones calling Americans names and failing to recognize the bravery and effort of the United States' military forces in Iraq...........

Terrible ice storm in Toronto today. Let's hope hearty conservatives will brave the elements and come show their support for America.

Last Saturday thousands of people showed up on Parliament Hill for a similar rally. No ice storm, but it was cold and rainy.

Living in the mid-Michigan area the only news from Canada we receive is from The National on CBC news. CBC is very bias on their reporting against anything American. I admire Peter Mannsbridge on his speaking talent but loath him on his treatment of Americans. Any suggestions for better coverage of Canadian news?

The weather will kill this event. It will have to be rerun later. I live just west of Toronto and couldn't get my van to my next door neighbour's driveway.

Canada's support for the USA was clearly in evidence today. Despite the weather, which IS really nasty, I thought the turnout was spectacular down at Nathan Phillips Square. Lots of Stars and Stripes, supporters giving away flags and pro-USA placards - it was excellent! I'd estimate at least 200-300 people.

The best sign, "Nuke Dissent!"

A group of anti-war activists tried to make things unpleasant shouting out the usual slogans but their effort was pathetic, and a lot of CanadAmericans quashed them shouting U-S-A! U-S-A! It was great.

Wish I could've stayed, I'm now back in my office. This is my 1st post, hope it goes through. As an American living in Toronto, it was great to feel the warmth of Canada's support on a very wet, slushy, icy day. THERE IS HOPE FOR CANADA YET!

One of Toronto's anti-American newspapers, The Globe & Mail, reports a crowd of at least 800 "friends of America" gathered at the Toronto rally. The all-news station was reporting a crowd of over 1,000 U.S. supporters -- despite the severe ice storm that saw many Torontonians staying home from work.
