I recall Saddam had some Iranian POWs that he had imprisoned for 10 years. If I remember correctly, he finally let them go recently.

Why is it gross, p? She was told her husband was killed in the war. Is she not supposed to move forward, for her children's sake much less her own?

"I believe he is still alive," Nelson said. "The question is: Can we find him and bring him home alive?" I pray so.

Her second husband obviously adopted the children. I consider that honorable. There was no way for them to know Speicher was alive...

They have their loving memory, DNA and their mother and stepfather's accounts of such a fine father and man.
My friend's husband died and she remarried a few years later. Her new husband adopted her daughter, giving her his name. The girl is now 13 and has precious memories of her father...nothing lost.
In the situation of Speicher, she had *no* idea he could 'come back to life'...if indeed he is even alive.

I think this is a despirate bid by Sen. Nelson to be relivent. He is probably rehashing some old news reports on Capt. Speicher that ran last Fall.

There are legal benefits to children if their stepfather adopts them, and many loving stepfathers do such.

If he is still alive, there are a number of people who should be going up for war crimes on this issue alone.

No need to freepmail...use the thread. Your comment was fine for general discussion.

There are others that need to on this thread, as well. Incredible.

Democrats using a POW for leverage? When they opposed the war?
Do they get their strategy from cracker jack boxes?

NO ONE LEFT BEHIND: The Lt. Comdr. Michael Scott Speicher Story, Amy Waters Yarsinske, Dutton, 2002.
Tracking this explosive story for the past eight years, Amy Waters Yarsinske interviewed top government and military officials, diplomats, pilots, informers, and Iraqi defectors. The result is a stunning true account of the denials and cover-ups that obscured an essential fact: Speicher actually survived.
Amy Waters Yarsinske is the author of two dozen books, and has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism for her six-part series in the Virginian Pilot on Scott Speicher, written with Lon Wagner. A former intelligence officer in the naval reserves, she lives with her husband--a former naval aviator and Desert Storm veteran--in Norfolk, Virginia.
