Boycott ABC
4/1/03 | rwinant

Posted on 04/01/2003 11:40:10 AM PST by rwinant

I am asking all who are concerned about media bias to boycott ABC, including its television shows, the Disney Corporation, ESPN, and any other affiliation with that network that you are aware of. Here's why.

On March 30, I was watching a television show on our local ABC affiliate out of Boston. A break came on and they had a news "teaser" about an interview with Tariq Aziz. In the teaser, it showed the logo "ABC News Exclusive" and it focused in on Aziz. He made a statement to the effect that the suicide bombings would continue. While this was not really news, as we had heard that before, what incensed and outraged me was that the AMERICAN Broadcasting Company was allowing a major leader in the government our country is at war with use the resources of the network to directly threaten our soldiers. Following is an email I sent to WCVB (the Boston ABC affiliate) and ABC World New Tonight.

***Enclosed message***

I am outraged at a report I just saw on your channel with the "ABC News Exclusive" logo. I saw one of the major leaders of the country our nation is at war with being allowed to use the resources which are paid for, in large part, by citizens of the United States to threaten the lives of our soldiers! This was done by a news reporter associated with a network known as the AMERICAN Broadcasting Corporation.

I am referring to the interview with Tariq Asiz. While I didn't see the whole interview, as the portion I saw was used as a "teaser" lead in for the late evening news, I saw enough to make me realize that the "impartiality" of the reporters is being carried too far. We are at war! Our soldiers are at risk of their lives so these "impartial" reporters can have their lives preserved! The very fact that Tariq Asiz was allowed to use ABC News to directly threaten the lives of our soldiers puts a lie to that "impartiality."

As of tonight (March 31, 2003) I will no longer knowingly use the services of any organization affiliated with ABC, including Disney, ESPN, or WCVB. In addition, I will encourage everyone I know to do the same. I believe that everyone has the right to their opinion, but I also believe there comes a time where their opinion borders on treason when it comes to protecting the lives of the brave men and women of the United States military.

***Enclosed message***

Interestingly, this occurred at approximately the same time the firestorm about Peter Arnett was heating up. While I deplore what he did and consider it an act close to treason, I believe the actions of ABC news are more heinous. I believe Peter Arnett acted on his own volition without the blessing of the network, while ABC News deliberately allowed Aziz to use their resources to propagandize and threaten our soldiers. This is absolutely outrageous and is why I ask the help of all like minded people to join me in the boycott.

I boycott all news except Fox. I boycott all TV shows except JAG, sports, History channel, and old John wayne movies. I boycott all movies that include any one of the modern-day cast of left wing characters. I will support Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, Rick Schroeder, and Tom Selleck, and the few other true Americans.

I recommend we not only organize a nation-wide boycott of NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, and Hollywood in general, but that we all send back via U.S. Mail all Videos and or CD's that include any of the left wing cast of characters. Tonight I think I'll send back my tape of "Hook" since it includes three of the biggest creeps on earth -- D. Hoffman, J. Roberts, and R. Williams.

I suggest everyone else do the same. Don't go to the movies and don't watch the networks and CNN.

Unfortunately, the local radio station that carries Rush uses ABC for the news/propaganda every half hour. I have called them any number of times about the slanted direction of "news" reports.

After a while, our local news reader began reading the ABC stories but they also carry a market commentary by the local Edward D. Jones spokeswoman, who continues to report market down turns as "War Fears".

When the market surged by hundreds of points, I paid close attention to see if she reported "Market surges as a result of War Optimisim." No such luck.

Introduce her to Teddy Roosevelt via a picture boo and how the teddy bear come to be, then buy a generic one with other generic "bear" stories.

ABC Television? Television? That's that big black box with the window that glows when you plug it in, right. Thought so. Buried mine in the back yard last year. It was useless as furniture and even more useless as entertainment. And even worse, it was a huge electricity hog! Yep. It had to go.

If you want them to feel it, you have to go after their sponsors. I can't stomach Peter Jennings for more than 10 seconds at a time so I have never watched an entire broadcast in order to find out who their sponsors are.

I guess I'm boycotting them already. I never watch ABC, NBC, or CNN. The only thing I watch on CBS is JAG.

Been doing so for YEARS, save scheduled fights on ESPN. Ditto NBC, CBS, CNN and except for Joe S, everything on MSNBC.

I apologize but there is no way on God's green earth I could boycott ESPN. If Al Gore himself owned ESPN I would watch it. I guess I could refrain from watching ESPN during the brief time that football and basketball is not on but even that would be too painful.

LOL, didn't you receive the memo? If I boycotted half the stuff I'm apparently supposed to because a nation's government (of which the company being boycotted has nothing to do with) has a stance which some may or may not agree, heck we wouldn't have anything in the house!!

Go beyond ABC to their sponsors. News shows are cash cows for the networks. Letters and emails to news show sponsors will work wonders.
