This is a complete hoax.

yeah. we ought to get even with those lying DoD scum:

"He was with a (U.S.) military unit in the field and the commander felt that he had compromised operational information by reporting the position and movements of troops," Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman told Reuters.

"The commander thought it best to get the reporter out of his battle space and we understand he is being removed from Iraq," Whitman said.

But Reuters did quote a Pentagon spokesman by name. It's hard to believe that they'd make up an imaginary quote from an imaginary spokesman, especially when the truth will be known shortly.

I heard the report that Geraldo got the boot within the last hour on KABC radio in Los Angeles. I wasn't paying close attention as to the source, as I wasn't aware of the report that this might be a hoax. It said that the Pentagon had asked Rivera to leave Iraq.

What gives?

Confusion Over Status of Geraldo Rivera in Iraq
Mon March 31, 2003 01:33 PM ET
By Charles Aldinger

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Veteran reporter and former talk show host Geraldo Rivera, a correspondent for Fox News, was asked to be removed from Iraq by the U.S. military for reporting Western troop movements in the war, the Pentagon said on Monday.

But in a report from Iraq where he was about 60 miles from Baghdad with the 101st Airborne Division, Rivera, known for his provocative on- screen style, said all was well and suggested he wasn't being ejected from the country by the U.S. military for coverage of the war.

Defense Department spokesman Bryan Whitman later told Reuters, however, that Fox News itself had agreed to remove Rivera after the military commander where Rivera was reporting felt that he had "compromised operational security."

A Fox spokesman said: "All I can tell you is that he's still reporting from Iraq."

Rivera said in his televised report that he did not know where the reports about the alleged security violations came from but accused colleagues, including former employer NBC, of perhaps "spreading some lies about me." He suggested all was well between him and the military.

"I'm further in the country than I have ever been," Geraldo said.

"If you were to ask me on whether or not he had reported on things that were of tactical value and compromised operational security, I would have to say yes. In the eyes of the commander on the ground, he did," Whitman told Reuters.

"I would say that he is going to be leaving Iraq," added Whitman. "Fox has talked to us and they have indicated to us that they are going to remove him from the area of operations."

Whitman, who had earlier said the military was ejecting Rivera, later amended that to Fox agreeing to withdraw the correspondent.

Reports from competing media said earlier that Rivera, a former talk show host and veteran correspondent who has also reported the war in Afghanistan and high-profile stories such as the O.J. Simpson murder trial, had been accused of violating rules against compromising operational security.

Whitman said Rivera was not officially "embedded," or assigned to the unit by the military, but was covering the troops at the time.

Easy on Laurie Duhe, now!

It seems that she has won the hearts of many of our US Servicemen, and may be well on the way to becoming an "American Sweetheart".

Although a very attractive Lady, she might not fit the stereotype for a hustler ceterfold, and I would certainly hope that she would be above that sort of thing anyway - but there is something about her that is just terribly endearing, and that is not lost on the FNC Audience, IMHO.

Her voice is like honey to the ears, and she is no intellectual slouch. At least she can read and articulate the English language intelligently, unlike the currently popular "Anchor" of FNC who frequently gets his murds wixed and is an embarassment to FNC if not to himself.

I would not be the least bit dismayed if the current "Anchor" were to be reassigned to a nice little weather station out in Nebraska somewhere and Ms. Dhue were to take his place; it would enhance my impression of the overall quality and credibility of that Network were that to happen, actually.

No doubt several hundred thousand American men in and out of uniform are highly envious of whoever Ms. Dhue's Fiance might be; and honenstly, I can't totally exclude myself from that number!

As an aside - are you following the footage of recent firefight with the 3rd INf where the Correspondant took a little shrapnel in the cheek? Pretty darned dramatic!

Things to look for: SAW jamming up on an Infantryman, and his futile attemts to clear it under fire.

Rifleman firing M-16 at an enemy position about 400 meters range; the camera is right on his right shoulder, and you can see impact about 15 ft. down an embankment below the target. ELEVATE, dammnit!!!!

Camera follows a medic from an APC accross the street to a wounded GI who took one in the left knee. Can you imagine being this guy's Mom or Wife seeing this? Didn't look life-threatening, but the kid was hurting for sure. An Officer told him that he'd won a Purple Heart and offered him a cigar, then helps pack him off.

Tanker standing on his vehicle describing the Battle - close calls - hollering "This is what we're here for;...God and Country, Baby!!!..." was that awesome or what? Give THAT ugly shmuck a cigar too, somebody!

How about the Lt.Col. calmly lighting up a stogie under fire? Downright Pattonesque!

We get the impression that stogies are making somewhat of a comeback in the Army.

We were wondering for a while there if America's Military and Youth were up to the heroic standards of "Our Greatest Generation" of WW-II; judging by this footage, I'd say that we have hope indeed!

OK, forget about Geraldo being expelled.

What was up with those pants he had on last night?

He had them pulled up nearly to his armpits with suspenders. Then he had a gun belt around his waist, sans gun. He had on a long sleeved black shirt thing. I mentioned to Mrs TC that I thought he had jodphurs on and was going to ride off on a stallion.
