Fox News Channel's Geraldo Rivera has been expelled from his embedded position, for giving away secrets on the air, CNN reported this morning.

I am sorry. I am at a loss as to why you address me so. If you search my name you'll see I was one of the first to pop in here and give a blow by blow of Fox going to Geraldo in the field.

I am not ignoring, however, a story by Reuters with named sources. Naturally I'm skeptical of it since I saw Geraldo with my own eyes. Probably best to look at everything I've said on the subject as I do not like to be accused of not considering the story, in total or the insinuation I am not informed, when I am.

I even said *on this very thread* that it would be delicious if Reuters got caught in an outright lie. (Probably too delicious, but since Geraldo is still there...)

Shortly before leaving Afghanistan, Gerryaldo put on a circus with the 82nd AB in which he was getting all huggie-kissie with the CO of the outfit - a Col. as I recall. You could see by the obviously big, tough CO's dark, flaming eyes and clenched jaw muscles that he was straining all of his ironclad self-discipline not to field-strip the flamboyant moustacheoed little buffoon into his essential components and stomp all of them flat into the Afghani dirt. I could almost see the nitrocellulose smoke curling out of his ears.

It seemed that it took a while to get JR out of Kuwait - several convoys departing for the front seemed to have one reason or another why they just didn't have room for the dandy sport and his big bag of toys. I wonder how much they had to bribe someone to find room on a CH-47 headed North.

Did you see that black rucksack he was toting? Whoooie!

Frankly, I am a little uncomfortable with how he coaxes personal and family info out of Troops - I would be expressing my love to totally fictional Wives, Sweethearts, Parents etc. in a Hometown somewhere in Colorado (I live in Maine); If my real family saw it on TV they would get the message all right, and not have to worry about a visit from some sleeper Jihad cell.

The North Koreans would not need this sort of intel; back in '68 they would talk to guys in foxholes on listening points via a loudspeaker and tell them all about their family and how they were doing, sometimes before the GI had recieved the word from home. They said that it could kind of get to you after a while. These Iraquis as near as I can tell are genuine doddoes compared with the Kongsan; if and when the ball is re-opened in Korea (the war, police action, or whatever it is has never been resolved - just on hold since about 1953, subject to resumption at any moment)we will be involved in a whole different show which had best not be taken too lightly.

And I really wondered about his laying out the battle plan in the sand like that, after everyone of his peers have been so tight about that sort of thing. I'm a little surprised that he didn't pull out a Cavalry saber to draw with, given his penchant for dramatics.

At least they seem to have cured him of his penchant for gaudy, absurd headgear - I think it was Kosavo when he kept showing up with the darndest costumes, intimating that he was "packing" and ready for a "gunfight" (THAT was SCAREY!), then in Afghanistan ducking and rolling around on the ground as a "sniper" round "just missed" him... Turns out that he was miles away from the action and probably staged the whole thing.

It may appear that the GI's he's "inbedded" with like him, and I hope they do; they should be commended for their tolerance - but I'm rather inclined to think that they take him as a comedy relief of sorts. Sort of like a Court Jester; the 101st Airborne now have their own camp-following Fool. Surely no one in their right mind takes Jerraldo the least bit seriously any more, if they ever did, but his entertainment value might be earning his keep.

Not to mention that satillite phone he packs around sure comes in handy for the guys who probably have no other timely or reliable means for keeping in touch with home; that has to have a positive effect on morale.

Maybe they'll let him lead the grand processional into Baghdad; after all; somebody has to check for land mines.

Gee; you don't suppose that Jeraldo will be "cancelled" the same way as they do for outgoing Soap Opera Stars, do you?

That sort of cancellation under those conditions could be for keeps!

You apparently do not read very carefully. I did not attribute American deaths to Geraldo. I expressed a sincere hope that this would not be a consequence.

I resent your accusation, and if you continue, I will report you for abuse.

In my opinion, there is no room for personal attacks on this forum. Each of us has an opinion, and on any given subject some are going to see a situation differently. You and I obviously are not on the same wave length here.

I enjoy reading the opinions of others, especially when they bring aspects of a situation I had not considered to the fore. It gives me an opportunity to reevaluate my conclusions, and revise them.

Your comments add little or nothing to the discussion, and I really wish you would restrict your comments to what kind of information from embedded is appropriate, and whether Geraldo crossed that line, and refrain from snarking at those whose opinions you find distasteful.

You'd certainly think so. But Reuters did quote a Pentagon spokesman by name. It's hard to believe that they'd make up an imaginary quote from an imaginary spokesman, especially when the truth will be known shortly.
