"It was wrong for Mr. Arnett to grant an interview with Iraqi state television," said NBC in a statement. NBC, MSNBC, and National Geographic have all fired him.
Arnett on live, apoligizing to "NBC, MSNBC, National Geographic, and the American people." He then goes on to say that all he said in the interview was "what we all know.

IMO the rank and file Iraqi is more likely to watch International CNN than Iraqi TV.

Thanks!
Of course the liberal socialists in control of Kiwi Land will welcome him back and make him the man in charge of anti America comments.

Is it true that a journalist misrepresenting facts to spout the enemy's propaganda line aids those who wish to undermine the government? What did Arnett misrepresent ?
Should a journalist be fired for admitting that he has as a goal doing so?
What did Arnett state has his goal ? I read the transcript and missed this. Maybe i scanned it too fast.
Yes. From a purist point because it destroys any credibility he may have had for his reports by calling into question the motivation behind the reports, and from an American point because he is doing something which endangers American lives.
I didn't see where anyone complained about his credibiltiy.

It would be satisfying to charge him with a crime.
Less satisfying would be for the casualties and American POWs, along with the families of those KIA, to hit him with a class action lawsuit, saying that his actions caused them harm.
Take every penny this guy earned from his enemy propaganda efforts, and give it to those harmed by his work.

Oh? I thought he still held his Kiwi citizenship...thanks for clarifying. Oh well, we can exile him to Ithaca, where he'll be right at home.

Your mother made a good choice for you.She also taught me that if "everyone was jumping off the bridge" I shouldn't. The pack mentality on this is unleashed by this incident is a little shocking.

In the early morning NBC was standing by Arnett.
This tells us as muh as we need to know about NBC.
To: VRWC_minion
What did Arnett misrepresent ?
In the past? The Sarin gas expose. The Baby Milk factory.
This time? The extent of civilian casualties. The absurd idea that Iraq has cooperated with the news media exceptionally during the conduct of this war (tell that to Newday, whose reporters were taken by the Iraq government to be escorted out of the country but subsequently vanished, tell that to CNN and Fox and every other news organization since they were expelled). The bizarre idea that opposition to the war in the US is growing despite a bevy of polling evidence showing the exact opposite.
Perhaps you have missed all that.

According to the thread last night, he became a naturalized citizen about 3-4 years ago of the US! Somebody posted proof.

The man may be stupid but I don't see evidence he wanted harm to come. Playing stupid, and being stupid are two entirely different things....
It does not become you.

Just out of curiousity...did you see Peter Arnett's interview with Iraqi TV that was being broadcast last night before their tv station went down and according to reports today, every hour since today since Iraqi tv has come back up?
I only ask because I wonder if your opinion is after seeing the interview or after seeing the outrage on this website regarding the interview.

Forget about firing Fartnett, what about charges of treason? This mutt upset our war of psychology: "Don`t lose your life for a dying regime" Emphasis on the word dying...How many Iraqis are now going to think twice about surrendering, pick up that rifle if they think "the Americans misjudged us and we are winning"..How many US troops can possibly be killed by that rifle now?
