Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I think we're getting the video from the CBS cam and the audio from the Do-It-Yourself Channel or HGTV.
Ollie didn't give much more info other than not shot down and was not under enemy fire. He just said that it was on a support mission at a forward base. Three killed in crash and not known if there were any other injured marines.

Also from the Agonist (note that anybody can post there, and I urge viewing, rather than rebutting):
If freepers find out about this Fox news lawsuit, and they still hold up Faux news as the great jesus of the media, then i can only come to one conclusion: Freepers like to be lied to.
Of course, all the rest of us already knew Faux news lies. But here you have Murdoch saying "We can lie if we want to, and we do!" Posted by: fred200 on March 30, 2003 03:40 PM

"I think Viet Nam has become a legend for the press corps. "One day, once again, we will contol the military and foreign policy of the USA, just as we did in Viet Nam..."
I personally think this is part of the indoctrination at journalism schools. That, along with Watergate - it's in the class entitled "You too can attack Republicans and hate Richard Nixon and get the Pulitzer. (Be sure to ignore democrat crimes.)"

Somewhere in the 600-700 area(number of posts), Ragtime Cowgirl did a real transcript of Franks' briefing at CENTCOM, and I made a game effort. Should not be tough to find if you are interested. There was a whole bunch of good stuff today.

Re:
Embed reports. As of the last 12 hours, I've seen Ollie, Rick Leventhal (live?), & Kerry Sanders--pretty sure he was live. I don't count Amanpour because she's not attached to a military unit.
But that's it. Where are all the embeds?

I remember Ollie talking to Sean and the other guy last week. He explained that as the chopper begins to land it causes a dust up. Said it was like being in pudding. The pilot can not determine where land is and causes hard landings.

So imagine this: spys all around the world could be freeping, here, sending coded messages between themselves, and we'd never know.
What to look for, heavy replies to specific topics not destined to draw many posts
Just a thought
Funny you mentioned that. Sometime after 911 I was on Rootsweb World Connect researching some New England ancestry lines. On each page you can see the email address of the poster of the family information.
I was not impressed by one specific page because there was very limited information and I looked at the email address and it was something like Mohammed(something)@jurusalem(something).com. I thought it was very strange at the time and looked to see if they had downloaded any family information connecting themselves to the New Englanders and there was nothing.
I wondered at the time what it was all about but didn't email the moderators at Rootsweb and I guess I should have.

Amanpour doesn't count no matter where she is!

...as the chopper begins to land it causes a dust up.They need a device like the moon lander had projecting downwards that indicates when they are about to touch down.

Peter Arnett said all the media moved their equipment over to the Palestine hotel after the ministry of information was hit.He said they are setting up now. That's probably what all the racket is about.

Aircraft heard.

Glad to know that you are up on your history. I heard that Vietnamese Americans had a huge proAmerica rally this weekend but I didn't catch where it took place. Was it near where you live?
I bet Gregg feels his ears burning after making a clunker like that! I wonder how many e-mails he will get about his mistake?

No, not that I know of, but I live in Orlando, and we have a good sized vietnamese population, good people too, most of them seem to love America as their new homeland
