INDIANAPOLIS -- Across the nation, black males tend to lag behind their high school classmates. Washington Township Superintendent Eugene White is confronting the problem head on, singling out black male students and chastising them for their poor performance in school.

Testify, neighbor, testify!
Reminds me of that TV commercial with the teen-age kid pulling the cash register while saying "CHA-CHING."

BUMP for a courageous educator, Mr. White !
"Last year he was in Track II and got a B without hardly even trying. But he convinced the guidance counselor that he needed to be slipped down into Track III, because he knew it would be easier yet."
That's just... beyond sad, it's actually rather enraging. I want to grab this kid and smack him around, yelling "Why are you doing this to yourself and to our society??"
Suddenly I understand the day my mom whopped me one upside the head and said "Why do you make me beat you?!" LOL!
The so-called "researchers" are idiots. I say White could go much further. When I was in elementary school the principal paddled my butt because, in his words, "you can do much better than you are doing". Damn if I didn't do better after that. LOL.
Whenever I would try, "But I did better than....," I was admonished by my mother, "Never compare yourself with the worst!"
That is clearly a racist belief, but they will never admit it. The race baiting poverty pimps make sure that the blacks stay down and needy, which keeps them voting for them in the hopes that they will be "helped." It just never happens. Look at Clinton's record. I cannot think of a single clear example of anything Clinton did in eight years that demostrably helped poor black people. All they did was serve as a prop for him everytime he got his butt in a sling. Got a problem? Run to a black church.
Wonder how many he has been to since?
Oooo, that's a good one!

And then he's labled the first black president. The black community can do a hellofa lot better that Bill Clinton.
and their parents MUST get involved-- as OUR parents were.
FRee dixie,sw
The year he became Superintendent of the district (and as C.E.O. of North Central High School at the same time), I was hired to teach there. He came for a visit one day to address the students. His message was quite clear, that it was mainly the african-american students that were getting into trouble, had lower grades, and generally needed to take advantage of what the school was offering, an opportunity to succeed in life.
His address was not a matter of simple, idle comments and threats. Everything he said was backed by statistics gathered from test scores, discipline reports, and attendance records. He was armed with real information.
It has been several years since I was on staff there, so I do not know if his message has been received, but I do know that we need more administrators like Dr. White. He is not afraid to speak the truth, and not afraid to let the facts speak for themselves.
Unfortunately, if a white superintendent had made the same comments regardless of the facts, he would no longer have a job and would have been labeled a racist.
Today, children in schools have no respect for the authority of the teacher and the administration. Of course this is a generalization, but I believe there is some truth here. We need more teachers and administrators to say what Dr. White said when he was questioned, "You're in school. I run this school, and I meet with you when I want to."
Children need to learn that there are consequences to their actions, or inactions. They need to be shown this with a strong hand, as well as with a respect that is due to them as human-beings. I think Dr. White did that well, according to the article.
Citizens need to take back their schools, get liberal thinking and socialist ideology out of the curriculum, and get back to the business of giving children a template from which they can become successful members of society. We do this with a solid education in English, literature, U.S. and world history, science, mathematics and the arts.
Will this ever happen? The skeptic in me says there is no chance until society as a whole notices that we are heading into the sewer. It would take another revolution to get away from the current state of societal decay.
