Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running on the weekend, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I sure hope they go video of thatI can wait till after the war to see the video. I'm pretty sure we can see them scratch their butts, but I don't want them to know how good we are.
Anyone remember the terrifying reports of a thousand vehicles racing to cut us off from the rear? Turned out to be a trap we set for them.
When Colin Powell was asked by a newsditz about our supply lines being exposed, he responded, "Exposed to what?"

I like it when Powell quits being the diplomat and lets his Army background surface.

That is really great news! Did you see the "Latest News" in the corner of that page? The windows at the British Embassy in Iran were broken out by anti-war protestors. But...but..I thought they wanted peace?

Thanks ..thats the same cam I am using..thought yours was diff view maybe..my other diff view seems to be offline.

We should veto any ideas they come up with, but then Blair would be hung by the neck in the British Parliment and Bush couldn't allow that to happen, could he?According to the UK reporters, Tony will be hung if there is no UN based reconstruction.
The real fascinating thing about this conflict is how all our old models (UN, NATO, nuanced diplomacy, etc.) are useless in this conflict. We really are in new territory. What will the new alliances be, what will the new processes be in world diplomacy?
Even my priest (lib through and through) has agreed with me in the total uselessness of the UN to deal with conflicts.

Can we do Libya also? Qadaffi has been living in a tent for the last several years. You remember what W said about cruise missiles and tents....

The last thing we need is to be seen installing "our guys" as "puppets." The current approach in Iraq seems closer to what we did in Afghanistan, with Karzai. That is my guess, I don't think we want to set up a goverment that is all one sided ..
We have to remember the folks over there are not like here .. they have had problem living next to each other for centuries

The last few days and probably the next few are "logistics" days. The 3ID and MEF, Air Cav and Armored Cav (and now the 101st) are establishing their next jumping off points, and forward logistics bases (and even air fields) are being established to supply the blast into Baghdad. All the while, we degrade the forces at our front (and fix them in position) with Artillery and Air. This also gives us the ability to clean up the irregulars along the path.
And gee whiz...when we're done with this guess who'll be on the scene: 2nd Armored Cav and the 4th ID. Crush the egg shell.

It's macabre and sick but California still leads Iraq for Killed Americans. Hey now, I am a california veteran. The fact is, that close to 1/8th of all americans live in California is a reason why Californians are prominent in the military even if proportionally, other states send more people.
When I got to my PDS, there were two guys in my battallion from my hometown that I knew personally.
There are also happen to be more registered republicans in California, then the populations of most states. So there :P~~~

Chemical Prtoection Equipment only proves they intended to defend themselves from exposure.
Not true. You wear them because you want to limit your exposure when deploying them and when they come back at you.
So, based on that reasoning Appy, why are Coalition forces wearing chemsuits?
I know we're on the side of the angels here, but you gotta look at it both ways.

Thanks, Dog! The third of the country who don't believe Iraq is part of a greater war on terrorism are being misled by someone.
We know who.
