Multiple | 28 March 2003 | Various

Posted on 03/27/2003 8:56:19 PM PST by An.American.Expatriate

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running on the weekend, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I actually watched some of the video of it coming in today, what a site. They had a couple of much smaller ships in front of it checking for mines. Reading some of the stories about the food shipments though, this could truly turn into a nightmare. Wonder if they can figure out a way to evenly distribute it.

NBC, Jim Mickloshefski - have to take Baghdad by Monday or the troops will be in trouble!

This is complete BS. And what the h*ll does he know? The press, as usual, is trying to dictate the pace of the war. They're the ones that expected it to be quick and they keep pushing, pushing, for more info and action. It's really pretty sickening.

Memo to the press: Let the military plan the startegy and you guys just report on it. Cut out the editorializing and the arm chair generals.

I hate the press.

Important things to do (college hockey).

You can go for 2000 -- the college hockey's all settled. Colorado College all the way.

It's good that this stuff is starting to come out. It's real hard to hear. Somebody ought to stuff this report down the throats of some peaceniks

I saw an article about one of the missing females. Very pretty and I am worried that she may be held somewhere for some horrid reasons. Can't stand the thought of it at all. Really feel for her family. But, the peaceniks and other pro-Saddam people need to know about Saddam and his goons' evil depravity.

Oh yeah!

Somewhere I've got a photo of an Anatoli, a C-5, and Air Force-1 (747) all on the same field at Moffitt. A gathering of Titans!

Drunks in NY. Imagine that.

Lol! It struck me yesterday, that for the all pols and press criticizing Homeland Security, Americans aren't worried...they trust the team at the top to do their best to protect this country and aren't childishly demanding the impossible - perfection (unlike the usual suspects), imho.

It's time the press dumped the armchair critics. It undermines the troops morale and it's cowardly...anyone can criticize...try running a war, protecting thousands...millions of innocent lives...and defending a country. Can you imagine if on D-Day the press condemned our efforts because of civilian casualties, gave Hitler and Tojo equal time and loudly proclaimed that we were in a quagmire or losing the war?!

Back from running errands.....and I flipped on the tv and MSNBC has a reporter on from Cairo....reporting word for word a report from Abu Daubi TV that a woman in Basra says we are killing civilians.

This American reporterette never checked to see if the story was true....she just stated what she heard on Arab TV as gospel....

I am so angry right now I could scream.

Actually there was a report this AM that two journalists from NewsDay Magazine have been missing from their hotel since Monday.

Perhaps they asked an Iraqi official a stupid media question.

Regardless, an ominous story if the worst has happened to them.

British General Jackson just mispoke talking about Basra. He was talking about the need of British forces to take out the Iraqi regime without harming the Iraqi people. It was about a 3 minute response in which at one point he said "Israeli civilians" instead of "Iraqi civilians", it was very obvious he meant Iraqi (since they live in Basra), but it was just a slip of the tongue. I just hope AlJazeera doesn't start looping the tape 24 hours/day... anyone else catch the slip?

It's a shame we won't be allowed to torture the torturers and show them just what the pain is all about. A jail term seems too damn easy to me.

I actually just emailed MSNBC to congratulate them on the report. The more this stuff comes out, the more the eyes of the world should be opened.

Thanks for the link. How depressing. I'm becoming more and more convinced that our State Department is nothing more than just an offshoot of the United Nations and nearly as damaging. They screwed up the Turkey deal too. Time of clean house at state. I don't understand why CIA is reluctant to engage these guys but then I don't think the CIA predicted the strong resistance we are encountering. Our intelligence community still needs a lot of work it seems to me.
