Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running on the weekend, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Just brought the CNN BaghdadCam up.
It is nice that they're providing the full-speed feed free.

They think that because NPR reports in that professorial style. It's sort of like how Daschle fools people into thinking he is not bashing Bush becuse he talks about being "disappoiinted" in that quiet voice.
Bah!

That picture immediately reminded me of this one from Oklahoma City:

The first Aid ship is actually docked in Umm Qasr... The Sir Galahad. I thought so, icbi, but heard later FN reports - newly discovered mines are preventing humanitarian aid from reaching the port. (?)

CNN just reported that the guys that were seen and arrested on the NY bridge this morning were DRUNK. The incident is being called alcohol-related now and terrorism isn't a big concern except that other bridges are being checked out for safety sake.
Drunks in NY. Imagine that.

Are there things that haven't been predicted? Did they actually ask THAT?
Same question popped up at CentCom. Neener, neener, your war games didn't predict this. Thanks, William Wallace.

I guess every military planner who doesn't recogonize and plan for every possible contingency is just plain short sighted.
Yes. They didn't realize that they were going to fight the very devil. The best thing about Americans though is we are very versatile and resourceful and optimistic and we will deal with the little demons and the big one in Baghdad. I have total faith in our military and our leadership. We will prevail.

"On belay" is what you say when you are the guy at the bottom of the cliff holding the rappel rope. It's a safty measure. If the guy on belay pulls the rope tight he can stop the rappeler from free falling.
The guy at the top of the cliff yells down, "On rappel," so as to let everyone know he's coming down. The guy at the bottom yells, "On Belay" to indicate he's ready.
At least, that's the way we did it at Camp Red Devil NCO Academy at Ft. Carson.

yikes. i shudder to think what your enemies listen to... Oh, and they think Peter Jennings is such an towering intellect and how handsome and suave he is. They hate it when I tell them he's a HS dropout and his viewership is falling.

It's not a briefing. It's a freaking family trip in a station wagon to Disney World.
