Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running on the weekend, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

From the looks of the report on Fox, the first thing they're going to be doing is providing security for a huge airlift of heavy equipment into the north -- that'll take a few days right there to get it set up and organized.
Leventhal says Marines have seen Iraqis in chem suits unloading drums from trucks.

I'm a USC fan and remember Pat well. The guy gave back millions to protect his Country. Heroic.

Rick Leventhal just said they've seen Iraqis in chem suits unloading trucks. He also said our guys asked if they had support from the public.

The Fox reporter embedded with 3 ID was on tonight saying that the officers in 3 ID were telling him that in An Najaf they were noticing a lessening of the attacks by the Fedayeen and Al Qud which they attributed to the fact that they had been killing so many of them. Earlier in the same report he said that over the past two days the Iraqi irregulars had made many attacks which merely resulted in a lot the attackers dying.
He was pretty funny...smirking almost as he kept making references about the only impact these attacks made were that the division had to kill a lot of people. Apparently, the number of kills was pretty dern large.
It seemed CNN embed with Marines was moving along real well with troops alert. I didn't catch how they were moving but it looked like an overwatch movement.
That is really good news that Fetayeen is taking it in the shorts.

This seems only prudent given our expectations, failure cannot go on indefinitely, you must come to grips with it and do the honorable thing;)

I heard that too...Ooooh Sightings!

"Air raid sirens in Baghdad?"Hey! This is the second time in the last 2 days someone will say air raid sirens in Baghdad and I haven't heard a thing. The other day after several minutes then I started hearing them.
Is it because you are on the East Coast, and I am on the West Coast? :-)
Still waiting to hear them.

No I didn't. It was implied that all this is the plan for the "rolling start" already. Units that had already been talked about: 4ID, 2nd and 3rd Armored Cav regiments, 1st Cav Division, 1st Armored Division, and so forth. That's a lot of firepower...will they just go and take out Syria too?

Now Rick Leventhal is on--still no video--audio only. Rick has SEEN Iraqi soldiers in chem suits loading drums of something. UNREAL. He won't say anymore about it. Sightings have taken place in more than one occasion. Bottom Line: they are taking the threat seriously. He says the marine chem suits ARE effective.

It sounds like RL is trying to warn everyone that the chemical weapons are about to be put in use. He sounds exhausted and perhaps a wee bit frightened.

Blix says they don't have them. Must be why he is retiring.

That may be the silver lining in all of this. If we didn't deal with the Fedayeen now and simply focused on "cutting off the head," the Fedayeen would have gone underground and wreaked havoc. Better to deal with them now, and take them out.

"He also said our guys asked if they had support from the public."
It's sad that they have to ask :(

and they didn't call in an air strike right away? do these reporters ever ask intelligent followup questions? i mean, give me a break, iraqis unloading drums in chem suits! every plane in the air should be heading for that location.

You may be able to disable loading images using your browser preferences. Small file size pics are alright, half meg images take a couple minutes for me. I like seeing images, they are worth a 1,000 words
