***Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - Day 8 - LIVE THREAD***
Various | 3/27/2003 | Me

Posted on 03/26/2003 9:04:14 PM PST by Centurion2000

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Think Korea, Vietnam. Wait till you are whipped, then get an outside agent to arange a cease-fire. Then re-arm and continue to terrorize the population. Glad to hear that so far we aren't considering it.

From what I gather, SanDiegoConservative was banned last night. Looks like we had a full blown flame war about how wonderful San Diego is/isn't.

For the record I LIKE San Diego...

I wonder who's really in charge in Bagdad now...I'd have expected to see Saddam's sons out in crowd shots, and more of Saddam himself...if the decapitation action seriously impacted all of them, then indeed, no one may really be in charge..it's like a bunch of headless chickens....it may complicate efforts to cause mass capitulation...

You would also be terrified if Saddam was your leader. The lesser of two evils for a short time.

LOL he's gone? I know night before last there was a SD discussion. Somebody hopped on the thread and said how he/she hated San Diego b/c there are too many Mexicans here. Me, SDconservative, and Carne Asada and a couple others defended this place. :)

Why would there be a ceasefire -- is it some media campaign for one or something?

The new trial balloon.

IT literally "rained" mud...you had all the fine sand suspended in the air from the sandstorm...it takes a while to settle out...then the rains came....instant mud...

No one needs to ever use syrup of Ipecac again.

You're assuming CNN will stay in business.

As long as there are liberals, there will be a CNN.

Why would there be a ceasefire -- is it some media campaign for one or something?

I heard some report a day or two ago about a number of Arab countries trying to broker a cease fire. I imagine that they were probably again going to try to convince Saddam Hussein to go into exile. To me it sounded all too similar to the trick cease fire we fell for at Tora Bora.

I believe that SnA has been misunderstood by the media.

I found it again, a link to the "author" of the Shock and Awe phrase. In general, the term relates to speed of the opponent, the ability of the opponent to "totally change your position" much faster than you thought possible.

Achieving Rapid Dominance, by Harlan K. Ullman and James P. Wade

Chapter "Shock and Awe"

That 5,000/month who die in Iraq from lack of food and improper medical attention is the one I'm using in my letter to the editor and the one used in the Washington Post and by George Will. Two thirds of those are thought to be children under 5. It's barbaric.

Sweet that the appeasers care that we left Kyoto on the table but don't care about the kids dying.

Hey nully, there was a bit of that here as well, but nothing amounting to a flame war (minor skirmish perhaps!!). I too heard that SDC was banned, but not word from the MODS yet on the posts - they were not offensive - just OT

not sure..it seemed it was lighter out. I wasn't watching what happened. The clip may have shown it actually being hit.
