Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Even if it was Richard Perle, he does not speak for the administration (which I know you know!). The media really likes to try and put spin stuff their way.

Shock is a feeling, when something happens you do not expect. That must not be necessarily the appearance of troops - I can imagine the use of MOAB or the prevent-communication-bomb.
I believe that SnA has been misunderstood by the media. They presented the whole war wrong from the very first shot.

In most of the cases where you used the vowel "a" (Froid-a) we use the schweh (in the dictionary, an upside-down small letter E.)
So the pronunciation is a bit more like Froi-deh, as opposed to Froi-dah.
The schweh results in a better choral tone/sound, and is clearer to the listener.

man the liberals are spread over the craple networks..Russert saying oops they were wrong..it will take longer...Jamie Rubin on CNN saying France "has a point"...bla bla.....George Mitchell saying the might USA military being bogged is evidence..bla bla...
Russert's analysis of the GWB/Blair conference--Russert jumped around every aspect, without using the q-word---more costly, last longer, too few troops, underestimated Iraqi soldiers' resolve, etc.....

The 400,000 children have died in the past 5 years. The anti-war crowd doesn't give a damn. They sure don't! Kids dying is quiet and no one knows about it but war is violent and loud and there is actual blood, so it's bad. Yes war is the worst thing there is but starving kids or people quietly tortured and raped, no problem!

Robert, I agree with you to a certain extent. But there were also media "experts" before the war that contributed to raising expectations by saying we would be welcomed as liberators and that Republican Guard would probably flee etc. Of course there were also the Hackworths out there saying the opposite.

I still believe that if S&A was part of the strategy, this part has failed.First off, I'm not willing to conceed it (in it's orginal, intended context) has failed. But let's say it has. No one who looks at this rationally could even dream that the US is a "one trick pony" - there are definitely other cards in the Administration/Coalition's hand; and certainly, the press ain't gonna (no matter how self-important they believe themselves to be) get wind of everything up GW's sleeve.
In any event, this Monday morning quarterbacking that the networks are playing is nothing more than "We don't have any other plans; we only planned for this to run a few weeks. Sweeps are coming!"
In other words, media stupidity as normal.

11:36 AM EST | Iraqis Using New Russian Anti-Tank Missile
Kornet (AT-14)
This missile was apparently imported after sanctions began. Add it to the growing list of reasons why Russia may have been nervous about Saddam's overthrow.

On the other hand, if you're listening to MSNBC, CENTCOM is begging to differ with Blix about the non-use of banned weapons; three missles that went over the agreed mileage -- one went 190 kilometers! And a new kind of mine!
Take that, Blix.

It was NOT Richard Perle...some other guy whose name I can't remember right now...you'd know it if I could recall it. He has gray hair and moustache.
Great commentary about Special Ops INSIDE Baghdad.

It appears from the report on Fox News that the Iranians have blown up an Iraqi gunship. Guess we have another member of the coalition! (kinda sorta)
