Since the election is still distant, maybe he won't get a funerally.

He was an honorable man and a statesman, but he began compromising his principles under Lyndon Johnson, and showed himself at his worst under clinton. I pray that he died well.

Tim Russert did work for Monihan,Matthews worked for Tipsy O'neill, and Jimmah Cotter. This is so sad, his appendix burst, and he apparantly got a severe infection. He was a great man, though he lacked courage to stand up to the left wing nd PIAPS unless he got sauced ahead of time. His great intellect will be missed, and prayers for the family.

How ironic that Hillary announces this. While Hillary didn't find the time to attend any of the 9/11 funerals, she will probably volunteer to be a pallbearer at this funeral. Got to be good for at least 10 points in the polls.
To: Timesink
Let's hope his funeral retains a bit more dignity than Paul Wellstone's.

He was an ardent and articulate advocate of partial privatization of Social Security--one of the few on his side of the aisle. What a shame he won't be around for that debate.

For a Lib, he wasn't a bad guy. A damn sight better than the current crop of NY senators.

One less gun grabber. Good riddance.

So long to a good old Mick.
Issues aside, he was one of the good ones.

"Hildebeast eulogizing him on the Senate Floor on CNN. " Did The Hildebeast just reword her "Bush Knew" speech with this new subject?
To: Timesink
RIP...he made sense at times and was pretty candid.
Hell's Kitchen raised as I recall(?)

One less gun grabber. Good riddance. A... This is neither the time or place... and B, this man is long retired from the senate, not grabbing any of your guns or mine. Show a little humanity. It might suit you.
To: sakic
He was in the great liberal tradition that the new democrats are busy trying to beat out of the party.
God rest his soul. His calm voice and reasoned appeals, even when I disagreed, will be missed.

"The last honorable Democrat. RIP" Goodbye, Senator. What a wonderful character you were. Full of facts, stories, humor, charm, dignity. I wish Hillary Clinton hadn't forced her way into your space. God love ya.
