Live report from Karl Penhaul after Apache choppers attacked Republican Guards near Karbala (sp?). This is north of Najaf and WSW 70mi of Baghdad.
He reports that our Apaches were shot up pretty bad. The IRG put up a "wall" of AAA. After returning to base, Apaches were "strewn around" instead of being parked neatly. He wouldn't confirm that all our Apaches made it back.

If CNN said it went badly, it must have -- right?
Let's not panic just yet.

If we carpet bomb them for about two weeks, the 4th ID will be just about ready to join the 3rd ID, 101st and Marines for the surge forward. I dont think thats a bad idea. I wouldnt be surprised if that was the plan. In fact, I hope it is. Nobody said this war had to be over in a week.

Read this the right way.
Apaches are earning a well deserved rep for taking an incredible amount of battle damage, and returning safely to base.
That is a GOOD THING.

I agree that all surrenders should be unconditional, and that we should severely punish any enemy troops that prefer to not surrender.

I was just explaining to my wife the blast radius of a 20 megaton nuke. She said my God you would kill everyone in Baghdad and I said, "Yeah, that is about right.".......and?

They're not surrendering! They have no intention to surrender! They will never surrender!
Carpet-bomb these a-holes.

That doesn't make me want to stand up and cheer really.

Good point, C-141 would be an easy juicy target. I'd say that we have heavy b52 carpet bombing, WHEN it is time for us to roll on top of them, smoking and bleeding out of every orifice, sort of disoriented ya know?
To: battousai
The fact they made it back tells me they did their job.

I am sure that the leadership is going to get really serious about this war really quickly.

B-52s and stick bombs aren't available anymore?? I try not to get too worked up about the Communist News Network, but it would appear that our objective is to deplete our military assets sometimes...

A fair amount of classical treachery, plus the Iraqis don't
know that Saddam is inoperative. It's probably past time to
take down Iraqi TV.

"WSW 70mi of Baghdad" is close. That's one hour's highway
drive. We are likely encountering the outer layers of the
hard core.

Let me butt in here.
I sure as hell ain't no democ-RAT.
But I agree with Thane_Banquo on this one.
A humane war is an oxymoron.
Their guys die and our guys die.
That's what war is.
War is not nice.
You either want to kill these guys - or you don't.
You can not (successfully) have it both ways.
I have been in in K-T-A; A-L-A-S-T-O mode all day.

Remember the fiasco of x42 trying to bomb "tanks" from 15,000 ft in Kosovo? The result was hundreds and hundreds of bombs dropped and and maybe two tanks destroyed.

I posted a vanity on this very subject a few hours ago, and many of the replies made it sound as though I don't support our efforts. That really pi$$ed me off. Please visit

You are right!! Time to BUFF the bastards.
I fear that we are not softening up the target areas because we thought that the "leaflet bombing" was going to cause mass surrenders.
MK 82's and 84's cause mass surrenders.
