Fox News just showed the forbidden picture. You can't watch it anymore.

"March 23, 2003 is turning into 24 hours of horror."

June 6, 1944 was a day of horror. September 11, 2001 was a day of horror. December 7, 1941 was a day of horror. and on and on.

"Why hasn't something similar been done to the choppers?"

F-16's take-off and land on contrete runways. Choppers may take off on c'rete but mostly land on sand (over there at least). BIG difference.

Operational and combat losses are expected. We will lose soldiers in this war, unfortunately. We have lost them in every war. God bless their souls. A new generation of American heros are being made and forged right now. We will remember the lost, and celebrate the living every year, as we have since the first days.

It can be tough to watch, however, when your enemy is playing the Somalia angle to break your resolve. Dont fall victim to disinformation from an evil regime. Its hard not to do, even for old veterans.

I see the casualty counts so far as being amazingly low, considering the losses of Vietnam, Korea, and WWII. Compared to Gulf War 1, we are about even I figure, and it was considered a miracle that so few perished.

We are making more gains by the minute. Our losses are accentuated right now, but consider the fact that we are 90 miles from Baghdad and thousands of Iraqis have surrendered. We are doing extremely well.

The Iraqis have lost hundred if not thousands of young men today.

I understand your concern but considering the amount of aircraft in the air at any given time+amount of confusion+ the adrenalin that must be pumping by the buckets, I find it quite amazing that more don't fall from the sky. I have crewed both Hueys and Blackhawks (primarily Hueys) and have experienced close calls in peacetime in relatively safe environments. Add to that all the above ingredients and the pucker factor increases exponentially. I too am angered and saddened by the loss of our defenders and cannot express the gratitude and sorrow to their families that I am feeling now. God Bless the Defenders of the American Way!

Do watch the Oscars. Mark Davis, a real conservative, who braodcasts weekdays in the DFW area, with a Sunday nationwide show, suggests we watch. This way when the libs begin to spin we'll have first hand knowledge of their infamy.

This way we can bolster our boycott list as well!!!

Yours is a voice of reason- you've been there, done that, seen the rest. My PFC son is ready to jump off at any moment with an AVN outfit; he and I are also involved with a CAP squadron. We know that helicopters will crash because their natural state is on the ground (gravity rules- there will always be more aircraft at the bottom of the ocean than there are submarines in the clouds). There are gen av deaths that go virtually unreported except locally, so people don't think about them. One doesn't like it, but that is the way it is.

Are things not going well or is this all to be expected?

We lost more aircraft in World War II to accidents and bad weather than to enemy action.

Exactly my mind frame. Is Shakira on this list? It gets my even more angry when a non-citizen, who has become rich here, insults our President and our troops!

It's expected. We could have worse days ahead in Baghdad. This is actually not bad for casualties if you consider the whole war theatre.

Yeah, I know. I keep reminding myself. I'm in for the long haul, just so sad to see the barbarianism of our foes.

It is. But consider that these things are all a witness against them. Ultimately, they're going to lose the PR war this way.

I've never liked helicopters. They are generally the source of more accidents than any other form of miltary equipment. With tankbusters available, faster, more maneuverable, and less susceptible to high winds, I cannot understand why we place troops in harm's way, in helicopters. Blackhawk down is becoming an oxymoron.
