I understand your concern but considering the amount of aircraft in the air at any given time+amount of confusion+ the adrenalin that must be pumping by the buckets, I find it quite amazing that more don't fall from the sky. I have crewed both Hueys and Blackhawks (primarily Hueys) and have experienced close calls in peacetime in relatively safe environments. Add to that all the above ingredients and the pucker factor increases exponentially. I too am angered and saddened by the loss of our defenders and cannot express the gratitude and sorrow to their families that I am feeling now. God Bless the Defenders of the American Way!

Yours is a voice of reason- you've been there, done that, seen the rest. My PFC son is ready to jump off at any moment with an AVN outfit; he and I are also involved with a CAP squadron. We know that helicopters will crash because their natural state is on the ground (gravity rules- there will always be more aircraft at the bottom of the ocean than there are submarines in the clouds). There are gen av deaths that go virtually unreported except locally, so people don't think about them. One doesn't like it, but that is the way it is.
