I apologize for this vanity post, my first.
But I think Drudge overstepped the boundaries of decency by publishing on his front page a picture from Al Jazeera, showing what is purported to be a picture of an American POW.
The Washington Post has an article on it, in case anyone is not familiar with what happened. So far all American Media has refrained from showing pictures of the Al Jazeera video. For Drudge to put up a picture reduces him to well, I rather not say.

"Al Jazeera has even agreed to stop running the video at the request of the Pentagon. Amazing. But I think they are worried about the Geneva Convention."The Geneva Conventions do not apply to the media. They can show it all they want. The war criminals are the Iraqis that displayed the dead soldiers, not the dip$hit media who show it.

I agree. Similarly I thought we should have shown the people jumping from the World Trade Center.
The Iraqi government (ok, Saddam and his henchpersons) have been doing this to the Iraqi peope for more than 20 years. This needs to be emphasized.

May it not be a member of your family. When family is notified, the pentagon/centcomm releases the names to the media. As far as I can see, that hasn't been done yet, so I FOR ONE WILL NOT ASSUME THE FAMILIES KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why haven't we dropped a MOAB on IRAQ TV?

Better yet. Freepers refrain from visiting DRUDGE for at least 24 hrs.
To: FairOpinion
10 to 1 we see this picture on some peace protestors sign with some ridiculous caption about "This is what happens when you listen to Bush." At that point, I'll be fists-a-flying saying, "This is what happens when you offend me so egregiously."

Just FReeped him. My low opinion of Drudge just dropped even lower. Anyone who tries to capitalize on the shock value of what's happening to our men and women right now is a disgraceful piece of crap.

Note to Drudge:
Shame on you, Matt!! I go to your site for news, and what greats me is awful beyond words.
There absolutely NO reason to be posting such a picture. It has reduced your website, as well as your credibilty, to the level of CNN running the tape of our dead being dragged to the streets of Somalia.
I regularly visit your site for headlines. But if this is what you feel you need to do to get hits, I won't be back.
I don't know what you are trying to prove, but you have lost a visitor. There are plenty of decent and reliable news sources.

I agree. In my opinion the only reason the pictures should not be shown is for the families' sake.
If that was me lying there, I would want all you guys to see what those bastards did to me.

Well, Drudge has once again proven he is unamerican! Just MHO!

I want to know what my enemies are seeing. Especially if this helps to alienate them from the rest of the world. I want everybody to see it, especially the fifth columnists marching around currently in their cutesy little parades.

don't be frigging ridiculous. a family member who has just gotten the visit from the pentagon is not going to go surfing on the web. and i daresay that they are going to be more upset about what happened to their family member than whether pictures of it were taken. meanwhile, showing the pictures is likely to firm a resolve among the people, such that it is less likely that this kind of thing will be allowed to happen again.

Y'know, I think Drudge not only has the right to show it but SHOULD show it.
People need to get ANGRY. We are SOOOO politically correct that expressing legitimate anger is considered hate. BS! We should be showing people jumping off the WTC towers, choosing to die by falling instead of burning. We should be showing the dead Kurds who were gassed by Saddam.
There is this incredible belief on the part of the government and the press that we're so fragile and so wishy-washy that if we see disturbing footage we'll start crying for the boys and girls to come home. I don't believe that for a minute. And if I'm wrong, maybe we don't deserve our position as superpower.
Drudge is doing a service, as is Michael Savage on his new TV program.
To: FairOpinion
I want to see the war as it is. Anyone who can get me facts, regardless of how unpleasant is doing there job. I don't like the idea of the press deciding what I can handle and what I can't. We need facts - and that includes images.
To: FairOpinion
I'm not going to his website and give him another hit. This guy is not a friend to this WH, and delights in embarrassing it whenever possible. Such total disrepect is just way beyond the pale. I cannot be bothered with this guy - let him post his pictures - it will only turn people off!

You asked this:
What, exactly, bothers you about the publication of the picture? By asking the question I assumed you didn't know the answer. I think the offensiveness is obvious.
To: RobFromGa
Per my previous post about the pentagon/centcomm releasing names of soldiers, #1.
#2. COULD YOU ID THIS SOLDIER FROM THIS PIC? Can the pentagon definitively ID the supposed executed soldiers from the video to notify families?
To: RAT Patrol
Thanks for stating it so well. The families do not deserve this.
I believe Drudge showed the Daniel Pearl execution too........
He's the biggest media whore around and I will not be visiting his site again.
