I apologize for this vanity post, my first.
But I think Drudge overstepped the boundaries of decency by publishing on his front page a picture from Al Jazeera, showing what is purported to be a picture of an American POW.
The Washington Post has an article on it, in case anyone is not familiar with what happened. So far all American Media has refrained from showing pictures of the Al Jazeera video. For Drudge to put up a picture reduces him to well, I rather not say.

"I'm sure you'd want to see a picture of your violated daughter or sister if she had been stripped and raped there, too. After allWell, well... a reply from one of the posters on FR I admire the most.
Women should not be in combat. Period! But yes.. I would want the rest of the country to be angry...very angy and to feel as I do. It is not like the family is not going to know what happened.
I read a lot of your posts and agree with 99% of them but we do part company here on this issue.

Do you honestly think that people would be surfing the internet and Drudge to get the information?!? Or would the Pentagon have immediately tried to figure out and notify the families as soon as they saw the tape?
And the only people doing the exploiting here are the Islamofascists and their supporters. Let's not treat them with civility if they're animals. Let's not try to justify their behavior by sanitizing the news and the coverage. It's the Islamofascists who EXECUTED these soldiers against all rules of the Geneva Convention. Let the world see just how brutal and disgusting ISLAM really is.
To: The Shootist
What is it with you people? What is with you? Let the families find out first, then release the tape. Sheesh. How would you like to see your loved one shot on in the head while surfing the channels?

You are right and I hope Michael Savage gets a hold of the video and shows it next Saturday. In fact I have already emailed with the suggestion! The PC crowd is so wrong about this it is amazing to what lengths they now go to shut the truth out. We are not a weak people in America!
This act of Iraq's rest with Iraq and shows the world what kind of vile sub humans we are up against with Islam.
More power to FReeper drudge!

What if it is a friend who doesn't know what has happened?well, under your reasoning, we'd keep it a secret from that friend forever. fact is, that soldier ain't pinin' for the fjords.
there has been comment here that not showing it will somehow prevent such atrocities being filmed for propaganda purposes in the future. this shows no knowledge or propaganda or, really, of anything.
propaganda works both ways. it firms up the guys on your side, but it also increases the resolve of the guys on the other side. if chiraq were shown being publicly hanged, many here -- me among them -- would cheer. but those who support chiraq would probably not change their minds, would they? no, they would get madder.
the american response to this picture is far more likely to prevent iraq thinking it can exploit such images in the future.
what many here seem to have utterly backwards is their outrage. they seem less outraged that these atrocities took place than they are that they were photographed. what utter foolishness! what dangerous foolishness!
this isn't some frigging television show. it is the real thing. it is the first 20 minutes of "saving private ryan." and if it makes you barf up your breakfast all over your morning paper, well, there are people who are undergoing a lot worse, in your name and for your freedom.

The only way that Drudge will care is if THOUSANDS of people completely boycott his site. If he loses lots of hits, he'll change, but he won't do it out of a sense of decency. I will boycott his site. I have no need to visit Drudge's site. He's too much of a rumor monger, and as you said, this is beyond the pale.

The First Amendment does not take into account disrespect. The Law is Blind. The Law is an Ass. It has nothing to do with ghouls though I am sure that they will be present also.
All images of enemy depredations must be shown to the world as quickly as possible. This Evil, all of it, must be exposed with the full shining light of the truth.
To: RobFromGa
Outrage is fine. But let the families grieve first, then release the video.

Think if it were your dead family member being shown to the world. I would be outraged and angry at the EVIL Iraqi government and I would want everyone in the world to see. Look and see how they treated my mother/father/brother son.

BINGO as long as it doesn't compromise our war effort. Drudge's Al-Jazeera picture, which is now PUBLIC DOMAIN, doesn't do that. I'm surprised at the number of people who don't get that. There seems to be this sense in people that if we let the ugliness of war be seen we will lose support or something. My fear is the other way around - this is a serious war and as such needs be illustrated how serious it is.
My feeling of the coverage over the first couple days was that this was like some National Geographic special where reporters were riding accross the desert on some field trip or something. This is very serious business and looking the other way as some misguided notion of national pride is the exact thing we shouldn't be doing.

Per even liberal CNN, the pentagon is now in the process of notifying the family. As usual, your ASSUMING is making an ASS OF YOU. "As usual"? Please provide evidence of my "usual" tendency to assume.

We don't show media pictures of crime victimsAmerica is not at war against a single perp, we are at War against a monster that many still do not believe is a Monster. They demand proof, this gives it to them.
I understand that this is difficult to view, but I think it is helpful to our cause to further legitimize the war.
