If all goes as planned and the Iraqi's are enjoying their new found freedom fairly soon, I think it would be political suicide for the liberals to start anything about war being declared or not.

I resolution was clear. What does it have to say to be a technically declaration of war? "We Declare War"?

Sounds as useless legally as going through the UN for 12 years.

Goin for a walk in the cool night desert air of Tempe. Hold down the fort. The Baghdad Cam is rolling.

Did you say that we know for sure that Saddam is dead because the satellite capability followed the ambulance and we took Saddam out? I wondered if that could have happened.

I thought GW Bush signed an executive order reversing the assasination ban.

Just a strange little side note I thought I'd share..
I'm sitting here watching tv and seeing all these bomb blasts, and hearing them as well, and then I can hear the artillery fire from Ft Hood right outside my window..it's a little bit eerie.

You missed that resolution of force and war that was passed 9/12/2003 ... that's all the authority that he needs at this point. Personally I would have like to have seen a full Declaration of War ... but that's just being cricket.

I'm fine the way it is ... this is some of the best things in life in the last few days.

We are crushing our enemies, seeing him driven before us and hearing the lamentations of the liberals.

Of course if it turns out that the war ends so soon with relatively few casualties, the liberals are going to whine that "see Saddam wasn't so dangerous, if he was he would have used chemical weapons."

A war resolution has to be brought up, the last resolution simply expressed confidence and support for the President and said Congress had no objections, but it was not a declared war via an expressly stated war resolution which would say "Be it resolved that the US has declared a state of war between themselves and the governemnt of the Republic of Iraq etc..."

It is a formality, but it could make a legal difference

I do agree it'd be a political sucicide though

Yes, but UN or not, the Liberals could bring up charges based on Bush violating the executive order banning assasinations, and that's a constitutional issue, not a UN issue. So the question is, was war declared or not, and can a head of state ALSO be considered an enemy combatant

Well from what is known .. all we knew was there was a chance of Top Iraqi Officials that were there .. who said they were targeting Saddam?
