ISLAMABAD -- From Manhattan to Mexico City, it has raised eyebrows and challenged perceptions of a part of the female anatomy that in most societies remains taboo. But The Vagina Monologues opened a new frontier over the weekend in its mission to spread its message of sexual liberation and women's rights.

For the record, I don't think this show has much if anything to do with women's rights. I question the wisdom of shoving this type of thing down the throats of another culture. This seems like insensitive cultural imperialism to me.
Basic human rights for women is one thing but I don't see how a play like this can help women in this part of the world. It will only make our culture, in combination with our movies, porn etc being exported worldwide, seem more depraved than it actually is.

It's always been my understanding that vaginas should be seen and not heard.

This is far more likely to produce terrorism in our country (for importing filth) than conducting a war of liberation to an oppressed people whose crazy leader possesses WMD. It's a lot more intrusive and aggressive than the war as well.

This ought to be good. Given Islamic sensibilities, the entire play will have to be performed behind the closed stage curtain.

This is the type of play the ANSWER crowd loves.
I have never seen it, never would, the title alone makes
me ill. What has happened to common decency?
Sorry, I believe this is foisted on us by gay activists.
What's next, "The Penis Chronicles"

They are doing it deliberately to foster anti-American hatred!!
By spreading this filth (no pun intended), they putting forth the idea that this is our American culture.
Why do we allow this to happen?
We need to bring back that government foreign information office that Clinton shut down.
To: Lorianne
OK. We want to promote American culture, right? I'd pick some Rogers & Hammerstein musicals. They are light, attractive, don't require much cultural context to be enjoyable (at least for starters). Even something lefty by Arthur Miller would be OK.
Sheesh! Even in NYC most folks stay far away from V-monologues, though the NYC area is so huge it is well attended.

This can do nothing but damage our reputation among other countries. Pakistan is an especially foolish place to be doing this. Do these nitwits have any desire to improve relations with Pakistan or to improve women's rights in Pakistan? Well, this is exactly the wrong way to do it.
I'm sure it makes them feel good. But it severely damages the cause of women's rights.
